PHOTOS: Anderson Middle School students dive into STEM with robotics
ANDERSON, Mo. — A recent visit to a local high school expo results in a memorable field trip for some Anderson Middle School students.
Shawn Cooper is the President and CEO of 'Cooper Gear and Manufacturing' in stopped by a booth at the McDonald County Expo where students were working with robotics. His business had one there, too. Thus, the wheels were set in motion to have those Robotics Program kids come out to his business.
They got a look at some of the latest in cutting-edge manufacturing technology which combines robotics, coding and mechanical engineering. Today's trip was part of an ongoing effort to give students a firsthand look at the types of careers to which a 'STEM' education can lead.
'Robotics can definitely better your education. I mean, like, you can go to college and learn about robotics and stuff, and then you could come out here and do what they're doing, and just, kind of, learning about how parts are made, and how people can use them in the real world. You can use stuff to have fun, but you can also use it to—like I said—to just better the world,' said Bently Wells, Anderson MS 8th Grader.
'We like to show them how we're applying that robotic technology to the CNC operations and actually challenge them to begin to think how can they take this technology to the next level,' said Shawn Cooper, Cooper Gear Manufacturing President & CEO.
CNC in this instance, stands for Computer Numerical Control. Students also got to check out one of the business' drones, which is being used for inspections and cinematography.
