Vermont trout fishing season set to begin April 12
MONTPELIER, Vt. (ABC22/FOX44) – Trout fishing season will officially open in Vermont April 12, according to the Vermont Fish and Wildlife Department.
State Fisheries Biologist Shawn Good noted that 'Just like any other time of year, anglers fishing early in the spring should adjust their tactics based on conditions.'
For early season trout-fishing, larger bait that is visible to trout is recommended, mainly because they are coldblooded and might be slower in these colder conditions.
The state of Vermont offers both wild and stocked areas for trout fishing, to learn more about stocking updates check out the department website.
According to VTF&W, areas are currently open to catch-and-release fishing for trout. During this catch and release season, only flies and artificial lures may be used.
Those who want to keep the trout they catch must wait for April 12.
'Trout will become more active with warmer water temperatures. If you can find a good location and present your bait or lure without spooking the trout, you'll have a good chance of catching a few fish, and enjoy a nice day outside,' Good concluded.
