Notre Dame hands Stanford biggest margin of defeat in program history

Fighting Irish Wire The only time Notre Dame hosted Stanford in South Bend before this season was an 88-76 loss in November 1991. So the opportunity to make up for that was a long time coming before the Cardinal joined the ACC. The Irish avenged their decades-old misfortune by handing the Cardinal their worst loss in program history, 96-47. The 49-point margin of defeat beat the Cardinal's previous record of 45, which was dealt by Long Beach State in March 1983. The conditions for the Irish (20-2, 11-0) to dominate the Cardinal (11-11, 3-8) were set five minutes into the game. That's when Cardinal leading scorer and rebounder Nunu Agara took a fall near the basket. She quickly was escorted to the locker room, and while she later returned to the bench, she didn't take the floor again. With the Cardinal missing their best player and starter Shay Ijiwoye and Brooke Demetre getting in early foul trouble, the Irish were more than happy to take advantage. Never was that more evident than in the second quarter when they outscored the Cardinal, 33-7. They went on a 26-2 run over the final 7:44 to take a 50-15 halftime lead, making the entire second half a mere formality: Hannah Hidalgo led all scorers with 24 points, and she combined with Olivia Miles, who had 20 points, to go a perfect 9 for 9 from the free-throw line. Maddy Westbeld scored 13 points, a total she shared with Cassandre Prosper, who came off the bench. Liatu King led the Irish with eight rebounds and five steals.
