Former WWE Champion Calls Out the Company for Blatant Sexism
Nearly a month ago, in the lead-up to WrestleMania, WWE was under endless internet scrutiny for various polarizing remarks. Roman Reigns, the president of the promotion, Nick Khan, was under fire because of everything from political beliefs to hypocritical philosophy on booking talent. Although the heat subsided, the criticism picked back up last week, when, in the midst of the best financial run in the history of the company, WWE still released numerous superstars across all of its brands. One of the more stunning cuts was Dakota Kai, who has recently been a Women's Intercontinental Championship contender. The rumors around that particular firing have caused a former WWE World Champion to speak out against potential sexist hiring practices. Becky Lynch and Lyra ValkyriaGetty Images While speaking on the "Backlash" post-show, Big E went off on his employer for the blatant double standard around the men and women on the roster. Advertisement "And the way we talk about age with women and the way we talk about age with men is so different," Big E said. "For a lot of women who are in their late 30s, it's all, 'Are you winding down? When are you ready to get out'? But look, it feels like 75% of the male side is 38, 39, 40, or 45. We just celebrated Randy wanting to do another 10 years. So let's give women the same honor and the same grace as well." Kai is 37, and a few reports were suggesting that there was nothing left she could do in her current run, which is simply a ridiculous claim. At worst, she could have helped prop up young talent before trying to evolve her character. Big E deserves props for addressing the alleged disparity and saying the quiet part out loud. Hopefully, this public blast will change some narratives with the higher-ups, and some needed changes can be made. AEW Star Mocks WWE With Logan Paul vs. MrBeast Match Prediciton
From the inception of AEW, tribalism online between fans has been rampant. Supporters of any wrestling company try to state cases as if they were a district attorney in court, arguing that their preferred promotion is better. It's petty but expected—the internet is an echo chamber of reality, a small fraction of a greater conversation. Over the last few months, the AEW and WWE rivalry has seemed to reach a fever pitch. Between calling out executives and moving their timeslots to compete head-to-head, the feud has transcended digital barbs and reached the boardrooms. Now the wrestlers themselves are getting involved, actively shooting arrows across at "the other side." That includes an AEW original who has recently mocked WWE with an outlandish prediction. MrBeast vs. Logan Paul?Getty Images During an interview with Adi Shankar, AEW International Champion Kenny Omega sounded off on WWE's recent celebrity integration. Advertisement "I don't know if I've ever said it publicly or not, but I mean, I think we're headed on a path where it's like, you know, a couple of WrestleManias down the road, the main event's going to be Logan Paul versus MrBeast," Omega said. "And it's like, what is the wrestling acumen? How many miles have they put into it? It's like, does it matter?" This is a classic case of a fascinating message coming from the wrong messenger. Omega is trying to keep the purity of the business, which is admirable, if he ever cared about doing that himself. This is the same man who has wrestled a blow-up doll and a nine-year-old girl. Regardless of his own past transgressions, Omega's thesis has some merit. Travis Scott recently interfered in the main event of the biggest show of the year. When is enough, enough, regarding celebrity involvement? Advertisement WWE has to prioritize utilizing its own talent better before continuously integrating "outsiders," regardless of how many social media followers they might provide.
