HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) – The 72nd Holyoke St. Patrick's Parade will kick off at 11:10 a.m. on Sunday, broadcast live at noon on WWLP-22News, and streamed on The route is just over two-and-a-half miles so there will be lots of space to see the festivities and get immersed in the spirit of the Irish. It will take approximately three hours and the streets along the route will open as the end of the parade proceeds. Road closures for Holyoke St. Patrick's Road Race and Parade weekend
HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) – Thousands of people will be in Holyoke this weekend for the annual St. Patrick's Road Race and Parade prompting several road closures beginning on Friday. Drivers are encouraged to find alternate routes as certain streets will be closed throughout the weekend. Starting Friday at around 3 p.m., the City of Holyoke will close Maple Street from Hampden Street to Lyman Street. The Holyoke St. Patrick's Parade showcases prize-winning floats and championship bands from the Northeast. Musical units include international bands, high school bands, and the famed Philadelphia Mummers string bands, which have been an annual favorite since 1967. Beginning in 1955, a Grand Colleen and her court have reigned over the annual parade from a majestic float that carries them along the nearly three-mile parade route. Other local cities also elect their colleens and courts and are also represented by police, fire, and dignitaries. The Holyoke St. Patrick's Road Race is just around the corner! From those modest beginnings, the annual parade has grown into one of the premier outdoor events in the Northeast, coupled with the St. Patrick's Road Race, held annually the day before the parade.
