Brothers arrested in connection with Feburary double homicide in Winnipeg

Two brothers wanted under Canada-wide arrest warrants after a double homicide in Winnipeg earlier this year have been arrested. Sheldon Derrach Catcheway, 33, and Shanastene Irene McLeod, 35, were found with gunshot wounds at a home on Alfred Avenue, near Aikins Street, on Feb. 15, Winnipeg police previously said. They were rushed to hospital in critical condition but died from their injuries. Canada-wide arrest warrants were issued in April for Jermain Gage Houle, 24, and his brother, Aaron Junior Houle, 27, in connection with the killings. Both men have now been arrested, police said in a Friday update. Jermain Gage Houle was arrested on Wednesday, and is charged with second-degree murder. Aaron Junior Houle was taken into custody on April 24. He has been charged with accessory after the fact to murder. Both were detained in custody.

Social Sharing An assault left a man seriously injured in a Winnipeg neighbourhood that has been the scene of shootings and a double homicide in the past two weeks. Police were called to Magnus Avenue, between Andrews and McGregor streets, around 3 p.m. Tuesday. There were at least a half-dozen marked cruisers at one point, according to images posted to Facebook by people in the William Whyte neighbourhood. Police confirmed they found the man but haven't released any more information. Investigators with the major crimes unit are investigating and police were still there as of Wednesday morning. Police are warning about "a gang situation brewing." The head of the Winnipeg Police Service's organized crime division told a city hall committee officers have found six firearms in possession of suspected gang members in recent days. Officers arrested four people and seized two loaded guns Monday night on Selkirk Avenue, a few days after four suspected gang members were arrested after being found in possession of four loaded firearms, Insp. Elton Hall told the Lord Selkirk-West Kildonan city hall committee on Tuesday, before the incident on Magnus occurred. "It appears we have a gang situation brewing," he said. Sheldon Derrach Catcheway, 33, and Shanastene Irene McLeod, 35, were found dead a home on Alfred Avenue, off Aikins Street, on Feb, 15. Both had been shot, a police spokesperson said. No arrests have been made in that incident. Another shooting happened on the afternoon of Feb. 19 near the intersection of McKenzie Street and Manitoba Avenue.
