Sheldon's Hall of Fame includes three winning Olympians, multinational law firm CEO

SHELDON, Iowa (KCAU) — The Prairie Museum is home to the Sheldon Historical Society Hall of Fame. There are 35 members, from business, industry, military, sports, and other areas. The Hall of Famers have distinguished themselves on a national basis in their career field. Sheldon is home to three Olympians. The first is Morningside graduate A.G. Kruger who competed in the hammer throw in three summer Olympic games: 2004 in Athens, Greece; 2008 in Beijing, China; and 2012 in London, England. There were also the Brands twins, Tom and Terry, two Olympian wrestlers. Tom Brands won gold in 1996 in Atlanta, and Terry earned a bronze medal in 2000 in Sydney. Tom is longtime head coach University of Iowa wrestling with his brother Terry at his side. Sheldon is home of the 'Orabs,' but what are they? Even with the three Olympians being internationally recognized, the Hall of Fame honorees are all natives of the Sheldon community. 'Certainly, Brian Duffy who is managing partner of the largest law firm in the world and he graduated form Sheldon High School. He's excelled in the legal profession. It's really quite amazing,' said local historian Tom Whorley. Duffy, a 1983 Sheldon High School graduate, is the chief executive officer (CEO) for Greenberg Traurig, a multinational law firm with more than 2,500 attorneys in 43 offices around the world. There will be two new inductees in 2025. For more of KCAU 9's Hometown Proud stories, CLICK HERE. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
