ANA Tokyo-US flight made emergency landing after passenger tried opening door
WASHINGTON (Mainichi) -- An All Nippon Airways (ANA) flight heading to Texas from Tokyo over the weekend was forced to divert and make an emergency landing after a passenger tried to open an exit door mid-flight.
U.S. media outlets have reported that the passenger was restrained by others on the flight, including cabin crew, and was apprehended by the authorities upon the aircraft's landing in greater Seattle.
According to CNN and other sources, the affected flight was ANA Flight 114 from Tokyo to Houston, Texas. It had departed around 10:30 a.m. on May 24, bound for George Bush Intercontinental Airport. The emergency landing at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport was made some 10 hours into the flight.
Authorities in Seattle were dispatched after reportedly receiving word that a passenger had attempted to open an exit door during the flight. A spokesperson for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) told CNN that the flight "diverted due to a passenger disturbance."
NBC News reported that the man who attempted to open the door was taken into custody by police, diagnosed with a "medical crisis" and transported to a hospital.
After landing in Seattle, another passenger was removed from the plane for unruly behavior. The two people were not related. The plane later proceeded to Houston.
