#SHOWBIZ: Animal lover Cakra Khan keeps 30 stray cats as pets

KUALA LUMPUR: Indonesian singer Cakra Khan unwinds by gardening and caring for his pets, finding it a refreshing way to clear his mind. "I have 30 cats at home. All of them were strays," said the singer, who spends around IDR20 million (RM5,191) monthly on their welfare. "I don't mind forking out that amount, as I believe part of my 'rezeki' (blessings) is meant for them too." Cakra revealed that one of his latest rescues was a cat with a heart problem. "So, to care for the cat, I bought the necessary equipment, including an oxygen generator," he told reporters at a press conference held here today to announce his upcoming 'Divine Concert – Cakra Khan'. "I do all of this just so I feel that I can be useful to someone." When asked why he doesn't keep purebred cats, the 33-year-old animal lover explained he prefers to adopt ordinary cats rather than buying expensive breeds. "As long as the cats are healthy, that's good enough for me," said Cakra, who has been caring for these cats for the past three years. Once rescued, he ensures they are neutered. While he doesn't require a personal helper, Cakra employs a maid specifically to assist him with his uncaged feline companions. The singer also confessed to being a big fan of a particular curry-flavoured instant noodle from Malaysia. "Each time I come here, I bring home a lot of them because the same instant noodle I can get back home tastes a little different," he explained. "Each member of my entourage helps me carry home about four cartons. Sometimes I do get into trouble at customs," he said with a laugh, adding that another Malaysian favourite is Mee Goreng Mamak. Presented by Shiraz Projects, Cakra Khan is set to perform his 'Divine Concert' at KLCC's Plenary Hall on Aug 2. Before that, the same concert will take place at The Star Theatre in Singapore on July 18.
