Louth boat race a tremendous spectacle through Drogheda's town centre
The River Boyne played host to the 9th Annual Boyne Boat Race, and while the elements didn't fully cooperate, the spirit of rowing and community triumphed. Hosted by Inver Colpa Rowing Club, crews from across Ireland and even the UK, gathered once more in the Wee County for a memorable day of sport.
Due to strong winds and uncooperative tides, organisers made the difficult call on Saturday evening to alter the original sea-to-river course and instead hold a river-only race. The revised route began at Crook Point in Mornington, flowing through the heart of Drogheda and back again. The change, led seamlessly by Race Coordinator Shirley Byrne, turned out to be a blessing in disguise, offering spectators the rare sight of boats and runners sharing the river path as the event coincided with the Drogheda 10K race.
