Karnataka rains: Four killed in Dharwad and Belagavi, red alert issued for nine districts
Rains continued to lash parts of coastal, south-interior and north-interior Karnataka and two rain-related deaths were reported from Dharwad in the last 24 hours. Separately, heavy rains caused two deaths in Belagavi district on Thursday. (June 12, 2025). According to the Dharwad district administration, a 31-year-old man was killed and two were injured when a tractor overturned in a stream at Hanchinal village in Kundgol taluk on Wednesday (June 11, 2025). The deceased has been identified as Shivayya Basayya Vatnalmath. In another incident, 58-year-old Hussainsab Kalasa went missing after the two-wheeler he was riding was washed away in an overflowing drain at Nekar Nagar in Hubballi city on Wednesday. His pillion rider was rescued by passersby. Meanwhile, red alert has been sounded in Kodagu and Udupi districts for Friday (June 13) and both district administrations have declared holiday for anganwadis and schools for the day. In Malnad region, a heavy downpour affected life in many parts of Shivamogga, Chikkamagaluru and Hassan districts on Thursday. Many trees were uprooted, low-lying areas were flooded and motorists were badly hit by the rains. The inflow into the reservoirs is on the rise, and the rivers and streams are in spate. The Malnad region received 21.9 mm of rainfall in the 24 hours ending 8.30 a.m. on Thursday, against the normal 9.5 mm. Holiday declared for schools in Udupi district on June 13 The Udupi district administration has declared holiday for anganwadis and schools, up to high school, on Friday, June 13, in view of the anticipated heavy rains. Deputy Commissioner K. Vidyakumari, who is the head of the district management authority, on Thursday said the holiday was being declared in view of the weathermen issuing a Red Alert for the district. However, educational institutions from PU and onward would function as usual, she added. Bridge over Malaprabha comes under water Heavy rain lashed some districts in North Karnataka on Thursday, disrupting life in Raibag and Kudchi in Belagavi district. Traffic on the main road in Raibag was shut for a few hours on Wednesday. Water entered low-lying houses in Raibag on Thursday. The Guledgudda-Parvati Bridge over the Malaprabha in Bagalkot district was submerged following heavy rain on Wednesday and Thursday. The police diverted traffic away from the bridge. Water entered several houses, a hotel and a petrol pump in Guledgudda town. Residents used buckets to throw out water. Light rainfall is expected to continue till Friday, officers said. Meanwhile, inflow at the Lal Bahadur Shastri Reservoir on the Krishna in Almatti was recorded at 12,641 cusecs. The dam has around 61.6 tmcft of water stored. The outflow was about 2,467 cusecs. Inflow at the Hipparagi barrage was 11,608 cusecs and outflow 5,497 cusecs. The dam has gross storage of 3.14 tmcft against the total storage of 6 tmcft. The Renuka Sagar dam on the Malaprabha has 10.4 tmcft of water against the maximum level of 37 tmcft. The inflow was negligible but outflow was 194 cusecs. Water level in the Raja Lakhamagouda reservoir over the Ghataprabha in Hidkal was 48.98 tmcft against total impounding capacity of 51 tmcft. The dam recorded inflow of 586 cusecs and outflow was 119 cusecs. Heavy downpour in Hyderabad, red alert for six districts in Telangana Meanwhile, the IMD also als alerted on the rain situation in Telangana. A deafening spell of thunder, along with sharp flashes of lightning and heavy rain, jolted residents of western Hyderabad out of their sleep in the early hours of Thursday (June 12, 2025). From Gachibowli to Serilingampally and Lingampally, the skies rumbled for nearly an hour, and water swiftly filled the city's low-lying roads. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heavy rainfall warning for six districts in Telangana for Friday (June 13, 2025). According to the latest bulletin, heavy rains are expected at isolated locations in Jayashankar Bhupalpally; Mulugu; Bhadradri Kothagudem; Mahabubabad; Warangal and Hanumakonda districts. In addition to the rain alert, the IMD has also warned of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds at isolated places across all parts of the State.

Man dead, another goes missing in heavy rain in Dharwad district
A man died and another went missing in rain-related incidents in Dharwad district in the last 24 hours even as a flood-like situation prevails in some villages. According to a release from the district administration, the 31-year-old man was killed and two injured when a tractor overturned in a stream at Hanchinal village in Kundgol taluk on Wednesday. The deceased has been identified as Shivayya Basayya Vatnalmath. Shivappa Byahatti and Mallikarjun Anchatageri escaped with injuries. In the other incident, 58-year-old Hussainsab Kalasa went missing after he was washed away in an overflowing drain at Nekar Nagar in Hubballi on Wednesday. His pillion rider has been rescued. Efforts to trace the victim have not yielded any positive result. Rescued Four working in the farmhouse of Kashinath Khode near Yamanur Bypass Road were rescued by the police and Fire and Emergency Services personnel on Thursday. The farmhouse was inundated by the overflowing Benni Halla (stream). Superintendent of Police Gopal Byakod and Assistant Commissioner Shalam Hussain led the rescue mission. In yet another incident, police and Fire and Emergency Services and teams led by Hubballi Tahsildar J.B. Majjagi and Deputy Superintendent of Police Vinod Muktedar rescued 100 sheep that were stranded as the Nigari Halla that was in spate inundated a barn. Shepherds Hussainsab Tahsildar, Chanabasappa Kuri and Moulasab Nadaf who were stranded as the Benni Halla swelled near Ingalahalli in Hubballi taluk were rescued by a joint team. The team also relocated around 470 sheep by ferrying them in boats. On Thursday, three people of Morab village who were stranded because of the Benni Halla swelling at Shiraguppi were rescued. The teams involved in the rescue operation relocated 300 sheep. As per a press release, 45 houses have been partially damaged in the district so far. Meanwhile, Kundgol MLA M.R. Patil visited rain-affected villages in the constituency and monitored relief works. India Meteorological Department has sounded a yellow alert for the district on Friday and an orange alert for Saturday.
