'Israeli' forces raid Al Jazeera office in Ramallah, renew 60-day closure order

Israeli Occupation Forces raided Al Jazeera's office in the West Bank city of Ramallah on Friday and renewed its closure for another 60 days, according to Al Jazeera. This marks the latest escalation in a series of measures aimed at silencing the Qatari-based network's coverage in the occupied Palestinian territories. The renewed closure comes after a similar 60-day extension in April. The office was first shut down in September 2023 under a military order, during which 'Israeli' forces stormed the premises, confiscated all equipment and documents, and banned staff from using their vehicles. In May 2024, the 'Israeli' government formally approved a proposal by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Communications Minister Shlomo Karhi to shut down Al Jazeera's offices inside 'Israel'. The decision was implemented immediately under what was dubbed the 'Al Jazeera Law,' allowing 'Israeli' authorities to block the network's broadcasts and operations within the country.

Israeli minister calls plan to forcibly expel Palestinians from Gaza 'deportation' plan

For the first time, an Israeli minister has admitted that Israel's campaign to remove Palestinians from Gaza will rely on force rather than so-called "voluntary migration." Far-right Likud Communications Minister Shlomo Karhi called the scheme a 'deportation plan' in an online post, attacking attorney general Gali Baharav-Miara for allegedly demanding a legal review of the initiative. This contradicts previous claims by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Jewish Power leader and former government minister Itamar Ben Gvir, who have tried to present what critics condemn as "ethnic cleansing" as "voluntary migration."

Israeli minister calls for forced 'deportation plan' for Palestinians in Gaza

An Israeli minister has said that removing Palestinians from Gaza would rely on force rather than so-called "voluntary migration". Likud Communications Minister Shlomo Karhi called the scheme a 'deportation plan' in an online post on Tuesday, attacking attorney general Gali Baharav-Miara for allegedly demanding a legal review of the plan. This contradicts previous claims by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Jewish Power leader and former government minister Itamar Ben Gvir, who have tried to present what critics condemn as "ethnic cleansing" as "voluntary migration." During a heated cabinet meeting on Monday, attorney general Baharav-Miara insisted that ministers consult her on the legality of US President Donald Trump's controversial proposal to forcefully relocate Palestinians in Gaza to third countries. Trump made the proposal on 5 February while Netanyahu was visiting Washington. Her demand, however, was met with sharp criticism from senior Israeli officials.

Israel extends Al Jazeera office closure and work ban for 60 more days

An Israeli court has upheld the government's decision to prolong the closure of Al Jazeera's Jerusalem office and extend its work ban for another 60 days, further restricting press freedom. In September, Israeli forces raided Al Jazeera's office in Ramallah under a military order, shutting it down and seizing all equipment and documents. Journalists were also barred from using their vehicles, effectively crippling their ability to report. Israel has been escalating its crackdown on the network. In May, the government approved a proposal by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Communications Minister Shlomo Karhi to permanently shut down Al Jazeera's offices inside Israel. The move was authorised under the so-called 'Al Jazeera Law' and will take effect as soon as Karhi signs the order.
