BHUBANESWAR: KARNATAKA swimmers have taken the pool by storm, ending the 78th National Senior Aquatic Senior Championships with 41 medals in the Kalinga Stadium on Thursday With 16 gold, 11 silver and 14 bronze medals, Karnataka dominated the show in the five-day long meet. The awards ceremony was all Karnataka's. Shoan Ganguly rounded off his memorable outing with another meet record in the men's 400 metre medley final. Ganguly and Dhinidhi Desinghu won the individual awards. In addition to winning team titles (Men: 158 points), (Women 153 points), Karnataka took home the overall championship title, with 311 points. Tamil Nadu finished second in the medal tally with 16 medals - with eight gold, five silver and three bronze medals. Earlier in the day, Ganguly clocked 4:24.64 seconds, a second faster than the previous record of Aryan Nehra's from 2023 (4:25.62s) in the medley final. Vihitha Nayana Loganathan secured Karnataka's second gold medal of the day, in the women's 100m backstroke final. Tamil Nadu swimmers Danush Suresh (1:03.11s) and M S Yadesh Babu (1:03.81s) won silver and bronze respectively in the men's 100 metre breaststroke final. Likith Selvaraj of Services finished first with a small margin. (1:03.06s).

Shoan Ganguly gave a good account of his potential as he secured the men's 400m medley title with an 'India best' performance on the concluding day of the National aquatics championships at the Kalinga Stadium Aquatic Centre here on Thursday. Shoan, who claimed the 200m medley crown with an 'India best' time the other day, made it a delectable double by winning the 400m medley gold with a time of 4:24.64. Ganguly, who led after 300m, withstood the challenge from Advait Page and Aryan Nehra, who held the National record at 4:25.62, before hitting the touchpad first. His second record breaking performance earned him the 'best swimmer' honour along with Dhinidhi Desinghu. 'This is my best time in two years in my main event. I thank Page and Nerha for pushing me,' said Ganguly. A day after winning the 200m backstroke, Rishabh Das claimed his second gold amid a keen contest between four swimmers. He clocked his personal best of 56.13 over 100m. Rishabh's training mate from Mumbai, Heer Shah held his nerve to clock 51.29 and bag his maiden crown in men's 100m freestyle. Bhavya Sachdeva picked up her third gold medal as she won the women's 800m title. Vihitha Nayana Loganathan (100m backstroke) and Harshitha Jayaram (100m breaststroke) won their second crowns. Altogether 14 new records were set in the championships. Teenage Olympian Dhinidhi Desinghu and her Karnataka State-mate Shoan Ganguly secured women's 200m freestyle and men's 200m medley crowns respectively with 'India best' times in the National aquatics championships at the Kalinga Stadium Aquatic Centre here on Monday. Dhinidhi, who had a disappointing outing on Sunday, fought back to better her two-year-old meet record by clocking 2:02.97. The World Championships 'B' qualification mark is 2:02.37. The 15-year-old surged ahead after the first 50m to establish a clear lead and win comfortably. 'I felt a little nervous. Am happy I did well in my main event,' said Dhinidhi. Shoan, who had timed a below-par 2:09 in the State meet a month ago, trained hard under his father-cum-coach Surajit Ganguly's guidance to record 2:04.34. 'I targeted 'India best' time and am thrilled to achieve that,' said Ganguly. M.S. Yadesh Babu achieved his personal best of 28.35 for the men's 50m breaststroke title. 'This is a result of my consistent training,' said Yadesh, on his maiden National title. In 4x100m mixed freestyle relay, Karnataka – comprising Rujula S., Latisha Mandaana, Akash Mani, Tanish George Mathew – took the yellow metal with a new meet record of 3:41.18. Tamil Nadu claimed the silver after Maharashtra, which finished second, was disqualified. Tamil Nadu, consisting of Pramiti Gnanasekaran, Yadesh, B. Benedicton Rohit, Deeksha Sivakumar, won the top honour in 4x100m mixed medley relay with a meet record. The results (winners only): Men: 50m freestyle: Jashua Thomas (TN) 23.06; 1500m freestyle: Kushagra Rawat (Del) 15:32.95. 50m breaststroke: M.S. Yadesh Babu (TN) 28.35; 200m medley: Shoan Ganguly (Kar) 2:04.34 (NMR, Old 2:05.64, Siva S., 2022). Women: 200m freestyle: Dhinidhi Desinghu (Kar) 2:02.97 (NMR, Old, 2:04.24, Dinidhi, 2023); 50m breaststroke: Mittapalli Rithvika (Tel) 33.98; 200m medley: Saanvi Deshwal (Mah) 2:21.87. 4x100m mixed freestyle relay: Karnataka 3:41.18 (NMR, Old 3:42.92); 4x100m mixed medley relay: Tamil Nadu 4:03.44 (NMR, Old 4:05.30).
