Elavenil, Ramita, Maddeneni among 20 other athletes to represent India at ISSF Shooting World Cup
New Delhi [India], June 6 (ANI): Indian athletes are all set to participate in the 2025 ISSF Shooting World Cup Rifle / Pistol event, which will take place in Munich, Germany, from June 8 to 16. Elavenil Valarivan, Ramita Jindal, and Maddeneni Umamahesh, who have been training at the Gun for Glory Shooting Academy, form part of the 23-member contingent, according to an NRAI press release. Elavenil is an Arjuna Award winner. She represented India twice in the Olympics and won numerous accolades, including golds in two Junior World Cups. She was also awarded the ISSF Shooter of the Year Award in 2019 and is a former World No. 1 in the 10m Air Rifle Women category. Ramita won a bronze medal at the 2022 Asian Games and was part of the team that won a silver medal in the women's 10 metre air rifle team event. She was an accomplished shooter and a finalist in the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. Maddeneni has won various medals across the single and mixed categories in the 10M air rifle men's division. Most notably, he is a 2023 Junior World Championship bronze medalist, and won a gold medal in the ISSF Junior World Cup, Suhl in 2022. 2012 London Olympics bronze medalist Gagan Narang expressed pride in his students, stating as quoted by the NRAI press release, ' It is our immense honour to have played a role in the development and training of Ramita, Maddeneni, and Elavenil, all of whom, beyond being top-class shooters, are humble and hardworking individuals. We hope their successes serve as a positive example for all aspiring athletes in India.' All three shooters have been training under Gagan Narang's mentorship and coaching under GFG's High Performance Coach, Neha Chavan. 'I am always grateful to have the opportunity to represent my country. I hope to make the country and all those who supported me proud. Gun For Glory has been a crucial part of my journey and development, and I would like to thank them for their immense support,' said Elavenil Valarivan as she gears up to make the nation proud.' NRAI names a strong squad for Munich Shooting World Cup
The National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) has judiciously mixed its selection, allowing some of the high performers to continue while bringing a few others fresh, while naming the squad for the Shooting World Cup to be staged in Munich, Germany, from June 10 to 14. Air pistol ace Suruchi Singh, who won the individual gold medals in the last two World Cups (Buenos Aires and Lima) retains her place, along with double Olympic medallist Manu Bhaker. Asian Games gold medallist Palak Gulia returns to the squad as the third member. Sift Kaur Samra, Vijayveer Sidhu, Arya Borse, Simranpreet Kaur Brar, Arjun Babuta and Chain Singh are the other medal winners from the first two World Cups who have retained their place in the 22-member squad. Kiran Jadhav makes the team in both the air rifle and 50-metre rifle 3-position events. Olympic medallist Swapnil Kusale, too, makes the team. Rudrankksh Patil and Saurabh Chaudhary who had won gold medals in the recent World Cups, make way for others in rifle and pistol. Olympian Sandeep Singh returns to the squad for air rifle, while Aditya Malra and Nishant Rawat made the cut for air pistol. Ananya Naidu makes the team in women's air rifle. India had won 15 medals in the first two World Cups, including six gold. The Indian shooters made 32 finals in all. The 18-year-old Suruchi was the most successful with three gold and a bronze. Sports pistol: Manu Bhaker, Simranpreet Kaur Brar, Esha Singh.

Simranpreet misses sports pistol gold by one point
The 25 sports pistol gold eluded the grasp of Simranpreet Kaur Brar by one point as she fought hard against qualification topper Sun Jujie (585) of China in the Shooting World Cup that concluded in Lima, Peru, on Monday. The 20-year-old Simranpreet lost the gold 33-34 to the Chinese, even as she matched her in the last two series. The Chinese had a one-point lead after eight series of five shots, and held on to the lead over the next two series to prevail for the gold. Manu Bhaker made the final in style, shooting the top score of 585 like the Chinese, but was pushed to fourth place by another Chinese Yao Qianxun. Esha Singh was also in the final but finished sixth. China topped the medals table with four gold, three silver and six bronze. USA was second with four gold, two silver and a bronze, while India followed third with two gold, four silver and a bronze.
