Baldwin County's Amber Buswell wins Remarkable Women award for her contributions
BALDWIN COUNTY, Ala. (WKRG) — Throughout March, we highlighted nominated by you for leading, inspiring, and contributing to the Gulf Coast. Now, is announcing our Remarkable Women winner, Amber Buswell.

'I adopted my daughter's best friend. She was 14 at the time; really bad home situation,' Buswell said.
Buswell is the founder of Shorty's Safe Haven, a ranch in Baldwin County where at-risk girls and horses meet.
'We bring them together to offer a place of hope,' Buswell said. 'Our motto is where hope lives.'
Shorty's has been changing lives for young ladies and animals in need since 2020.

'We bring girls ages 10 to 18 together with mainly horses,' Buswell said. 'They go out, they catch them, they groom them. The horses can tell when the girls are anxious or, you know, maybe in a bad mood.
'And by the time they leave here, you know, 2 to 3 hours later, they have a smile on their face. They have forgotten about whatever bad things happened that day.'
That's why her loved ones nominated her, and we chose her as this year's Remarkable Women winner.
'There are so many wonderful people in this community, but I got [chosen]. That's awesome,' Buswell said with tears of joy.
Next up for her is a three-day trip to Los Angeles to represent the Gulf Coast alongside other women making a difference in their homes around the country.
'I'm excited. I love my community. So I'm very excited to represent, and especially in L.A.,' Buswell said.
