Bestselling author Jillian Lauren, who is the wife of Weezer bassist Scott Shriner, pled not guilty to charges stemming from the Los Angeles Police Department officer-involved shooting that left her wounded outside of their home in Eagle Rock on April 8. According to The Los Angeles Times, Lauren, 51, pleaded not guilty to felony charges on Tuesday for willful discharge of a firearm in a gross negligent manner and assault of a person with a semiautomatic firearm. Last month, Lauren was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder for allegedly firing in the direction of police officers first. According to the LAPD, Lauren racked her gun and fired it during a standoff with police officers who were in a neighboring yard conducting a search for hit-and-run suspects who had fled the scene of a nearby traffic collision earlier that day. Body-worn camera footage and home-surveillance video later released by the LAPD appeared to show Lauren pointing her gun toward a fence which officers were standing behind. 'The officers gave Shriner repeated verbal commands to drop the handgun, however, she did not comply,' LAPD Commander Alex Chogyoji said in a case overview video released late last month. 'Moments later, Shriner racked the handgun, pointed it at the officers and fired, resulting in an officer involved shooting.' Lauren released her first memoir, Some Girls: My Life in a Harem, in 2010, and her second, Everything You Ever Wanted, in May 2015. Both books reached The New York Times bestseller list. Following the shooting, Lauren was booked in absentia on suspicion of attempted murder and released on $1 million bail. She is due back in court on June 18 for a preliminary hearing on whether the case against her will proceed, per the the Times. Weezer bassist's wife appears in LA court, hearing continued as LAPD continues investigation

The wife of the bassist of the LA-based rock band Weezer appeared in a downtown Los Angeles courthouse Wednesday related to an April 8 incident where she was arrested for allegedly shooting her gun at police officers. At Wednesday's court hearing, prosecutors said the case involving Jillian Shriner, the wife of Weezer bassist Scott Shriner, remains under investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department and has not been presented to the district attorney's office for filing yet. "We anticipate that will happen within the next week," attorney Jeff Liu said. The hearing was continued to May 13, with Shriner ordered to appear. Jillian Shriner appeared at a downtown Los Angeles courthouse Wednesday morning. KCAL News The Shriner and police confrontation began when officers with the Los Angeles Police Department and the California Highway Patrol were in her Eagle Rock neighborhood, searching for hit-and-run suspects who fled on foot. Police searching the area for the suspects were directed to a home in the 5300 block of Waldo Place. "As the officers were in the rear yard of that residence, they observed a female ... in the yard of a neighboring residence armed with a handgun," LAPD said in an earlier news release. That woman was later identified as Shriner. Officers said that they had ordered the 51-year-old to drop the gun several times, as she pointed it in their direction. Shots were fired and Shriner suffered a gunshot wound to her shoulder. She was treated at a hospital, and subsequently arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. A little over two weeks after the incident, LAPD released body cam video as part of a use-of-force investigation which captured the exchange between Shriner and officers. In the body cam video, officers could be heard yelling "Put the gun down!" a number of times. Officers also tell Shriner they are trying to help her and to "Drop the gun; you are going to get shot." Officers identified themselves as LAPD and the California Highway Patrol, as helicopters could be heard overhead. "Shriner then pointed the handgun at the officers, and an officer-involved shooting occurred," the LAPD said in an earlier press release. The body cam video shows officers shouting, "Shots fired, officer needs help," after shots rang out. Shriner will remain free on a $1 million bond, with her next court appearance scheduled for May 13.

LOS ANGELES, April 28 — The Los Angeles Police Department has released body camera footage showing Jillian Lauren Shriner, wife of Weezer bassist Scott Shriner, allegedly firing at officers during a search for suspects involved in a high-speed chase. In the footage from the April 8 incident in Eagle Rock, police encountered Shriner in her backyard with her weapon drawn and repeatedly ordered her to drop it. Moments later, gunshots erupted after an officer warned, 'Oh, she racked it,' and investigators later found one used cartridge casing confirming at least one shot fired. After the shooting, Shriner reportedly fled into her house and called 911, apparently unaware she had fired at police and not the suspects from the chase. Shriner eventually surrendered after an hour and was transported to a hospital with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. She has been charged with attempted murder and is scheduled to appear in court on April 30. Scott Shriner joined the band in 2001, replacing original bassist Mikey Welsh after Welsh left due to mental health issues. Weezer is an American rock band formed in 1992, known for their catchy melodies and hits like "Buddy Holly" and "Island in the Sun."
