Head coach Gautam Gambhir returning to India from England due to family emergency: Sources
New Delhi [India], June 13 (ANI): India Cricket head coach Gautam Gambhir is returning home from England due to a family emergency, according to sources. Gambhir travelled to England last week with the squad to bolster their preparations for their upcoming five-match Test series assignment in England, which begins on June 20 at Headingley. On Friday, when India was set to play an intra-squad match for the series, sources claimed that Gambhir was returning to India due to a family emergency. 'Team India's head coach, Gautam Gambhir, is returning to India from England due to a family emergency,' sources said on Friday. In the upcoming series, India faces a massive challenge in the testing conditions of England. After batting wizards Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli bid adieu to Test cricket last month, India was left short on experience. With India bereft of its torchbearers, the management turned to youngsters to mark the beginning of a new era. The five-test tour of England starts June 20 at Leeds and lasts until August 2025. With India lining up without its batting bigwigs Rohit and Virat following their retirement from the game's longest format, the onus lies on the Shubman-led revamped side to prove itself away from home in testing and gruelling English conditions. The series will be held from June to August, with matches scheduled at Headingley in Leeds, Edgbaston in Birmingham, Lord's and The Oval in London, and Old Trafford in Manchester. India's Test squad for England series: Shubman Gill (c), Rishabh Pant (vc), Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Sai Sudharsan, Abhimanyu Easwaran, Karun Nair, Nitish Reddy, Ravindra Jadeja, Dhruv Jurel, Washington Sundar, Shardul Thakur, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Akash Deep, Arshdeep Singh, Kuldeep Yadav. England squad for first Test vs India: Shoaib Bashir, Jacob Bethell, Harry Brook, Brydon Carse, Sam Cook, Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, Jamie Overton, Ollie Pope, Joe Root, Jamie Smith (wk), Ben Stokes (capt), Josh Tongue, Chris Woakes. 'Prince' Shubman Gill's Act With MRF Bat Triggers Huge Storm Ahead Of England Tests
Shubman Gill has been appointed as India's new Test captain, replacing Rohit Sharma. The Indian squad will face England in a five-match Test series starting June 20, 2025. Fans have criticised Gill for labeling his bat with the nickname "Prince," unlike past stars. India's newly-appointed Test skipper, Shubman Gills, gears up for a new adventure as he leads a young bunch of players in a 5-match series against England. Gill, who takes over the team's leadership responsibilities from Rohit Sharma, who has now retired from Test cricket, was spotted in a few customary photo sessions ahead of the start of the series. In the pictures of the shoot that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) shared on social media, the word 'price' could be seen written alongside the MRF logo on the bat. The 'Prince' engraving on the bat, however, hasn't gone down well with fans, with Gill being labelled a 'self-obsessed cricketer'. Gill got the 'Prince' tag from fans, much like Virat Kohli is called 'King' and Sachin Tendulkar 'God'. But, neither Kohli nor Tendulkar ever used these fan-given tags on their bats. Here are some reactions by fans: The Overhyped "Prince" of Indian Cricket Shubman Gill is so self-obsessed. Who even called you the Prince? A so-called 'Prince of ICT with a poor SENA record, a below 35 Test average, and zero overseas centuries across all formats after 5 years in his international career. — Niik (@Niiki099) June 11, 2025 Self Claimed Prince Gill became Captain and starts lobbying. — abhay singh (@abhaysingh_13) June 12, 2025 Prince — Naveen lucky (@Vk18_oneeight) June 11, 2025 Since arriving in England last week, Gill has been putting in the hard yards. He has faced the searing pace of Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah. Arshdeep Singh, one of the members of India's fast bowling quartet, was quick to note that the Test captain appeared to be in "good touch". Days after his appointment, Gill revealed that he is "overwhelmed" by the emotions and said in a video posted by the BCCI, "As a young kid, when anyone starts playing cricket, they want to play for India, and not just play for India, but play test cricket for India for a very long time. To be able to get this opportunity is a great honour. And like you said, it is a big responsibility." The five-test tour of England, starting June 20 at Leeds and lasting until August 2025. With India lining up without its batting bigwigs Rohit and Virat following their retirement from the game's longest format, the onus lies on the Shubman-led revamped side to prove itself away from home in testing and gruelling English conditions. The series will be held from June to August 2025, with matches scheduled at Headingley in Leeds, Edgbaston in Birmingham, Lord's and The Oval in London, and Old Trafford in Manchester.

India hone their fielding skills with coach T Dilip at Beckenham
Team India continued their preparations for the England Test series with an intense fielding session under the watchful eye of coach T Dilip at Beckenham. With a new-look squad set to take on the challenges of English conditions, the focus is clearly on agility, reflexes and sharpness in the field. As the squad adjusts to life without seasoned stalwarts Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, the energy and enthusiasm during practice are setting the tone for a high-stakes summer ahead. With India entering a transitional phase, fielding has become a key component of their pre-series routine. In a video shared by the BCCI, the players were seen diving, sprinting and throwing with intensity, offering a glimpse into their meticulous preparations ahead of the five-match Test series starting June 20. Check full video here: Focus ???? Smiles Fielding game ???? point ft. #TeamIndia???????? #ENGvIND — BCCI (@BCCI) June 11, 2025 Drills, reflexes and a touch of banter Fielding coach T Dilip led a series of drills focused on low catches, high takes and precision throws at the stumps. Players gave their all in the session, showcasing their athleticism and hunger to make an impact. Vice-captain Rishabh Pant came close to hitting the stumps with a throw from the deep, letting out a frustrated 'Arey yaar' as his throw missed by inches. Shubman Gill, who will lead India for the first time in a full Test series, was visibly impressed by his Gujarat Titans teammate Sai Sudharsan's reflex catch, responding with admiration. Mohammed Siraj added a light-hearted touch, celebrating one of his catches with an enthusiastic leap. The road ahead: New faces, new responsibilities India's Test squad for the England series features several young faces, with the likes of Nitish Reddy, Karun Nair and Akash Deep eager to prove themselves. With the absence of Rohit and Virat leaving a leadership vacuum, the Shubman-led side has the opportunity to carve out a new identity on English soil. The five Tests will be played across Leeds, Birmingham, London and Manchester from June to August.
