Himadri Specialty Chemicals partners with Sicona to bring advanced battery technology to India

By Aman Shukla Published on May 13, 2025, 14:13 IST Himadri Specialty Chemical Ltd, a company specializing in specialty chemicals and new energy materials, has entered into a licensing agreement with Sicona, an Australian firm focused on next-generation battery materials. This partnership grants Himadri the exclusive rights to access, adapt, and commercialize Sicona's Silicon-Carbon (SiCx®) anode technology in India, a development seen as a promising advancement for lithium-ion battery performance. The collaboration is timely, as countries, including India, are striving to localize battery production and reduce dependency on global supply chains. Himadri's role in this partnership places India at the forefront of the energy transition, bringing forward a technology that enhances lithium-ion battery performance. Sicona's SiCx® material, when used in combination with traditional graphite, boosts both energy density (by approximately 20%) and charging speed (by around 40%). This could lead to improvements in electric vehicle range and reduced charging times, addressing common concerns regarding EV adoption. Under the terms of the agreement, Sicona will offer technical support, including access to its proprietary knowledge, engineering expertise, and quality systems. Himadri will use its expertise in scaling chemical and material operations to localize and commercialize the SiCx® technology, contributing to a more resilient and sustainable battery supply chain.
