Rape suspect escapes from Sibu police station

An Indonesian man remanded for a rape investigation escaped from the Sibu Central Police Station on Sunday (June 22), prompting an immediate manhunt. Sibu OCPD, Asst Comm Zulkipli Suhaili, reported the escape occurred at about 4pm. The suspect, Bini, 25 has been remanded for an offence under Section 376(3) of the Penal Code - specifically the rape of a minor - fled wearing a purple police lock-up T-shirt and trousers. He was last seen running within the police station compound during the escape, ACP Zulkipli stated. The case is now under investigation for escape from lawful custody, with potential penalties of up to two years' imprisonment, a fine, or both. An immediate operation involving relevant units was launched around 4pm the same day to track down the detainee. ACP Zulkipli urged the public to assist police with any information regarding the suspect's whereabouts. Those with information should contact Sibu District Police Headquarters at 084-344111, Investigating Officer ASP Mingat Bakil at 019-8867978, or the nearest police station.

SIBU: A sales marketer here has lost RM102,992 in an online investment scam. Sibu OCPD Asst Comm Zulkipli Suhaili said the Commercial Crime Investigation Division received a police report on Thursday (April 24) in which the 30-year-old woman alleged she was deceived by a man posing as a senior executive from a corporate group. ASP Zulkipli said the woman became acquainted with the suspect on Jan 11 through a dating application. "The man introduced himself as Lucian Lee Hao Yu, claiming to be an engineer and director with a (well-known conglomerate). "The two then continued conversing on WhatsApp, and the suspect offered her an opportunity to invest in a private placement scheme," he said on Friday (April 25). Enticed by the offer, the victim proceeded to register on a website provided by the suspect, with the address Between Feb 6 and March 6, the victim made a total of 12 money transfers to three local bank accounts, amounting to RM102,992. "The victim even took out a loan to finance the so-called investment, following instructions from the suspect," he said. However, she did not receive any returns, and eventually realised she had been scammed. The case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating.

SIBU: A 35-year-old man was shot dead while hunting in an oil palm plantation area in Pasai Siong early Tuesday (April 22). Sibu OCPD Asst Comm Zulkipli Suhaili said the police received a report regarding the incident at 4.34am. "During the incident, the victim and his friends were hunting at the said place and was later found with injuries believed to be caused by a gunshot. The victim died at the scene," he said in a statement. Following the incident, police arrested a 38-year-old man in connection with the case. The suspect has been remanded from April 22 to 27 to assist in investigation under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder, which carries a mandatory death penalty," ACP Zulkipli added. He also advised the public not to speculate on the case as it could interfere with the ongoing investigation. "Anyone with information related to the case is urged to come forward and contact the investigating officer, Asst Supt Mohd Adzmei Ahmad, at 016-8095757, or approach any nearby police station," he said.
