PM Wong to visit Philippines from Jun 4 to 5; Shanmugam to be acting prime minister

SINGAPORE: Prime Minister Lawrence Wong will make a two-day introductory visit to the Philippines on Wednesday (Jun 4) at the invitation of Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr, the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) announced on Tuesday. In his absence, Coordinating Minister for National Security and Minister for Home Affairs K Shanmugam will be the acting prime minister. While Singapore usually designates a deputy prime minister to act in the prime minister's stead during temporary absences, Deputy Prime Minister Gan Kim Yong is in Paris until Wednesday for various official events, including a ministerial council meeting by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development. Mr Wong, who is also the finance minister, will take part in a wreath-laying ceremony at Rizal Monument - a memorial for Filipino nationalist Jose Rizal - and receive a ceremonial welcome at Malacanang Palace, the president's official residence, said the PMO. Mr Wong will also have a delegation meeting with President Marcos Jr, who will host an official dinner in his honour. "The visit reaffirms Singapore's commitment to strengthening our excellent partnership with the Philippines and provides an opportunity for the Leaders to exchange views on deepening bilateral ties, as well as regional and global developments," said the PMO. Joining Mr Wong on the trip are his wife, Ms Loo Tze Lui, Senior Minister of State in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Home Affairs Sim Ann, as well as officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the PMO. This will be Mr Wong's first bilateral trip since his reappointment as prime minister after the People's Action Party won the May 3 general election. The Philippines' Presidential Communications Office said in a release on Monday that the two leaders will "discuss the strengthening of Philippines-Singapore relations and explore opportunities for deeper cooperation across various sectors" during bilateral talks on Wednesday. These will include sectors such as health, climate change mitigation and civil service cooperation. "President Marcos and Prime Minister Wong are also expected to exchange views on key political and economic developments in the region, reaffirming their shared commitment to regional stability and prosperity," said the office. It also noted that Mr Wong's visit also marks the first by a Singaporean prime minister since 2017, "underscoring the significance of this renewed high-level engagement".

India won't tolerate nuclear blackmail, Pakistan using terrorism as state tool: All-party delegations

Delegations of all-party parliamentarians on Tuesday said India will not tolerate any nuclear blackmail and vowed to strike "precisely" and "decisively" at terrorist hideouts operating under its cover. The lawmakers accused Pakistan of using terrorism as "an instrument of state policy" and reaffirmed India's stance of zero tolerance towards cross-border terrorism as the new normal after Operation Sindoor. During a meeting with Singapore's Senior Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Home Affairs Sim Ann in the city-state, the Indian delegation led by JD(U) MP Sanjay Kumar Jha conveyed that if there is a terrorist attack on India, New Delhi will give a fitting reply. India will not differentiate between the government sponsoring terrorism and the masterminds of terrorism," it said. Sim conveyed that Singapore strongly condemns all acts of terrorism and stands with India against terrorism, the High Commission of India in Singapore said in a statement. The delegation also called on Minister of Law and Second Minister of Home Affairs Edwin Tong and discussed the new normal in India's policy against terrorism. "Great to see #TeamIndia sending across a message of resolve and unity against terrorism," External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said in a post on X. During a press conference in Paris, Prasad said that the distinction between the state of Pakistan and terrorism has now withered away. "Terrorism as an instrument of state policy is a part of the military state of Pakistan. There is no democracy there and the most hilarious aspect was that the general whose forces were defeated at the hands of India, decisively, got promoted to Field Marshal. This is their state of denial, always," Prasad said. The delegation presented photographic evidence of Pakistani military officials attending the funerals of terrorists and flagged how 52 UN-designated terrorist organisations found a safe harbour by Pakistan.

Singapore City [Singapore], May 27 (ANI): The all-party delegation led by JD(U) MP Sanjay Kumar Jha, during a meeting with Singapore's Senior Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Home Affairs, Sim Ann, emphasised India's firm stance against terrorism. Jha made it clear that India will give a fitting reply to any terrorist attack and will not tolerate nuclear blackmail. Jha stressed that India is prepared to strike precisely and decisively at terrorist hideouts operating under the cover of nuclear threats. The delegation also sought Singapore's support in combating terrorism at international forums, reaffirming India's commitment to a strong and measured response to protect its security and sovereignty. The High Commission of India in Singapore, in a press release on Tuesday, said, 'The All-Party Parliamentary Delegation led by Member of Parliament, Sanjay Kumar Jha, called on Sim Ann, Senior Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Home Affairs today in Singapore. Sanjay Kumar Jha briefed the Singaporean side on India's stance on the events since the terror attack in Pahalgam, Operation Sindoor and the new normal in India's strategy against terrorism. He highlighted that this delegation brings representatives of different political parties together to convey India's united resolve against terrorism.' It added, 'The delegation members conveyed that the terrorist attack in Pahalgam was an attempt to disturb the trajectory of peace, development and normalcy in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. The Government of India deemed it essential that the perpetrators and planners of the 22nd April terror attack be brought to justice. In response to this heinous act of terror, India launched Operation Sindoor, specifically targeted against the terrorist infrastructure. India's response was measured, non-escalatory, proportionate, and responsible.' The release further stated that the delegation members conveyed that Operation Sindoor has carved out a new benchmark in India's fight against terrorism. 'If there is a terrorist attack on India, India will give a fitting reply. India will not tolerate any nuclear blackmail. India will strike precisely and decisively at the terrorist hideouts developing under the cover of nuclear blackmail. India will not differentiate between the government sponsoring terrorism and the masterminds of terrorism,' the release said. The delegation members also requested Singapore's support in the fight against terrorism, particularly at multilateral fora like UN and FATF. As close friends and partners, India and Singapore will continue to work closely on regional and global issues, including on the issue of terrorism. In a diplomatic outreach following Operation Sindoor, the Modi government has formed seven multi-party delegations to inform nations about Pakistan's links to terrorism and India's strong message of zero tolerance for terrorism in all its forms and manifestations. Operation Sindoor was launched on May 7 as a decisive military response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack by Pakistan-sponsored terrorists, in which 26 people were brutally killed. Indian Armed Forces targeted terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, leading to the elimination of over 100 terrorists affiliated with groups including Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba, and Hizbul Mujahideen.
