Plane Passenger Floored by What Everyone's Doing: 'This Is Actually Insane'

A post about a flight where nearly all passengers appeared to be watching the same television program has gone viral on Reddit.
The post was shared by Reddit user Sebastian (u/Latter-Opinion-635) and has amassed more than 14,000 upvotes since it was posted on May 8.
Sebastian, who did not share his last name or location, told Newsweek that the surprising scene was witnessed on a flight from Chicago in Illinois to Vancouver in Canada.
The post was titled: "Why is everyone on my plane watching Family Guy [the animated television series]." It shows an image of the television screens of several rows of seats, nearly all of which appear to be showing scenes from Family Guy.
Sebastian told Newsweek: "I took the picture right after I came out of the bathroom and I was dying laughing."
He noted that "the average age on the flight was around 40 or so" and "the flight was pretty full but there were some open seats."
The show's popularity is unsurprising because a YouGov poll of 1,086 people in the United States conducted in 2025 showed that 97 percent of the population has heard of Family Guy. Sixty percent were found to have a positive opinion about the show, according to the YouGov survey.
The global in-flight entertainment and connectivity market size was forecast to see a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 8.4 percent from 2023 to 2030, according to a report by Grand View Research, a market research firm headquartered in San Francisco.
"The ever-increasing customers' need for bug-free connectivity onboard is one of the important factors driving the growth," the report noted. It added that "in-flight entertainment and connectivity (IFEC) systems play an important role in delivering customers onboard wireless connectivity solutions and services."
'Insane'
"This is actually insane," Sebastian wrote in the caption of the viral post. He told Newsweek: "I think people were watching Family Guy because there wasn't really a good selection of TV shows—or at least there weren't many well-known shows available."
Other Reddit users were also impressed by the odd coincidence, with several being fans of the Family Guy show.
