Care home once set for closure to be taken over by local council
A valleys care home that was once set for closure will now be taken under the control of the local council.
Neath Port Talbot Council have said they will take over the management of Trem Y Glyn Care Home this month with the aim of "securing the long-term future of the service."
The residential care home based in Glynneath currently provides residential care and support for people aged 65 and older, including those with dementia and other illnesses.

It was initially due to close by March 2024, before an extension was granted by the council after officers described the pressure the move could put on the local health and social care system.
A council spokesperson said that in addition to maintaining the facility and providing long-term residential care, they would also be introducing a new 12-bed residential reablement service for adults at the home.
This would be aimed at providing short-term support, typically lasting up to six weeks, to help individuals regain independence in their daily activities following illness or being in hospital.
Speaking after the announcement councillor Jo Hale said: "The decision to combine long-term residential care with short-term reablement is the best way to retain a much-loved local care home in Glynneath.
"The staff working at the home will maintain their roles, and jobs will remain secure, providing continuity of care and stability for all involved."
Councillor Simon Knoyle said it was great news for the people of Glynneath adding: "Coming back in-house to Neath Port Talbot Council is the best thing to do, with residential care still to continue and all jobs secured with additional jobs set to be advertised as the new service progresses."
Also speaking after the announcement was Glynneath Town Councillor Del Morgan, who is the convener of the Trem y Glyn Action Group, and who said after years of campaigning to keep the care home going he was delighted with the news.
He said: "As convenor of the Trem y Glyn Action Group, I'm so delighted that we have obtained the result that we have been striving for, for over a decade.
