Singapore Gulf Bank names ex-Fed Reserve vice chair to newly formed global advisory board

SINGAPORE - Singapore Gulf Bank said on Tuesday that it has appointed former U.S. Federal Reserve vice chair Randal Quarles as vice chairman of its newly formed global advisory board to support the digital lender's international growth strategy. Singapore Gulf Bank said in a statement that the global advisory board will be chaired by Whampoa Group's founder Amy Lee. Other board members include co-founder of China's largest online travel agency Ctrip Fan Min, founding CEO of Boyu Capital Louis Cheung and Beyon Digital's CEO Shaikh Mohamed Khalifa Al Khalifa, among others. Backed by Bahrain's sovereign wealth fund Mumtalakat and Singapore-based investment group Whampoa Group, Singapore Gulf Bank is the first fully licensed digital bank in the Middle East North Africa or MENA region, according to the statement. Tamkeen supports Singapore Gulf Bank in hiring over 70 Bahrainis

The Labour Fund (Tamkeen) announced its support for Gulf Singapore Bank (SGB), the digital bank backed by Bahrain's Sovereign Wealth Fund, Mumtalakat, and privately held investment group Whampoa Group aimed at enhancing the employment of skilled Bahraini professionals in high value positions within the financial services sector and assist the bank in launching its operations in Bahrain. On the occasion, Ms. Maha Abdulhameed Mofeez Chief Executive of Tamkeen reaffirmed Tamkeen's commitment to continuing efforts to support the employment of national talents in rewarding roles across key economic sectors, including the financial services sector which is the largest non-oil contributor to Bahrain's economy at 17.7% of the GDP in Q3 2024. 'Tamkeen's support will lead to the employment of over 70 Bahrainis at Singapore Gulf Bank forming the majority of the bank's workforce, and this initiative will provide Bahrainis with exceptional opportunities to gain world-class experience and explore career growth and development opportunities,' she added. Meanwhile, Mr. Aureole Foong, Co-CEO of Singapore Gulf Bank said, 'We will contribute to Bahrain's economy by upskilling local talent and strengthening the banking and financial sector with innovative solutions,' he added.
