Student spends two weeks in jail for social media post: HC tells cops you are 'bent upon ruining the girl's life'

A student from Jammu and Kashmir was arrested and jailed for over two weeks over the resharing of a post on Instagram. While granting her bail, the Bombay high court criticised the police for arrested.
On May 7, as tensions rose between India and Pakistan following Operation Sindoor, a 19-year-old student of Sinhagad Academy of Engineering near Pune shared an Instagram post posted by another account. After receiving a flood of threats and abuse, she deleted the post within two hours, acknowledged her mistake and apologised.
On May 9, the college issued a rustication letter to the student who is in the fourth semester. The college claimed that she had brought disrepute to the institution and claimed she held 'anti-national sentiments' and posed 'a risk' to the campus and society.
