Siouxland District Health Launces Free Measles Vaccination Initiative
SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — Amidst the measles outbreak, Siouxland District Health will be offering free measles vaccinations to the Siouxland community. According to a press release, the ongoing measles (MMR) outbreak is currently in 31 states across the United States. The Siouxland District Health Department (SDHD) said, 'Measles is a highly contagious disease that can lead to serious complications in certain populations and remains the most effective way to protect individuals and communities.' Vaccination is recommended for anyone who has only ever received one dose of, or never received, the MMR vaccine. Officials recommend that children get the first dose at 12 months old and the second dose at 4 years old. Siouxland District Health will be holding the free vaccination clinics every Tuesday morning from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.. If anyone needs the vaccine at a different time, the clinic should be able to get them in. Those interested are encouraged to call (712) 279-6119. Sioux City police issue reminder that littering is illegal
SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — Did you know that littering can lead to fines and jail time? The Sioux City Police Department wanted to remind Sioux City residents of that fact. In Iowa, littering is a simple misdemeanor with penalties that include citations and possible fines ranging from $105 to $855 plus possible court costs. According to a release from the police department, this could also include up to 30 days in jail. Siouxland District Health announces upcoming Health Fair The police department said recent complaints led to them wanting to issue this reminder. They are asking residents to properly dispose of trash to help keep the city clean. No person, firm or corporation shall permit litter of any kind or description to be so placed or deposited upon private premises over which any such person, firm or corporation has control in such a manner that the same may be carried onto the streets or alleys of the City. In a release from the Siouxland District Health Department, they announced that they will be hosting a Health Fair on Friday. Siouxland Multi-Cultural Fair kicks off for what may be its final year The Health Fair will take place at the Long Lines Family Rec. Center from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. At the fair, Siouxland District Health will be offering free health screenings, educational opportunities, and tips on maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
