SOUTH SIOUX CITY, Neb. (KCAU) — On Saturday afternoon, the Martha Washington Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) held a dedication ceremony at Siouxland Freedom Park. It was to commemorate the upcoming anniversary of when the colonies officially separated from Great Britain during the Revolutionary War, also known as July 4. The group dedicated a 'Memorial Bench' to honor those that served during the Revolutionary War. The bench honors not only the soldiers that served but also those that didn't serve officially, helping the soldiers to victory in the war. According to the organizers, this day was a long time coming. 'It's very nice to be able to finally achieve it. It's been a long time in planning, several years. It's nice to see it here, and it's something that's going to attract attention and give somebody a chance to contemplate the flowers in the garden when they get to blooming and all of the monuments that are here in the Freedom Park. Siouxland Freedom Park to host free dinner in honor of Vietnam War veterans

SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — Siouxland Freedom Park volunteers will host a free dinner Saturday in honor of National Vietnam War Veterans Day. This marks the eighth year the organization has hosted the event. The dinner will take place March 29 at the Scottish Rite of Sioux City, located at 801 Douglas Street. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. with dinner served at 6:00. The meal will be catered by Hy-Vee. Hawarden nonprofit created to help rebuild community after flooding The event aims to recognize and celebrate Vietnam War veterans, as well as all veterans and active servicemembers. However, organizers say it is open to all community members who wish to share in an evening of gratitude and remembrance. Non-military attendees are encouraged to make a free will donation to support the Freedom Park's mission of honoring and supporting local veterans. National Vietnam War Veterans Day is observed each year on March 29, in honor of the nine million Americans who served during the Vietnam War era. It was officially designated as a national observance in 2017 by President Donald Trump. The date marks the anniversary of the final withdrawal of U.S. combat troops from Vietnam in 1973.
