House fire kills one resident, a pet dog in Dunsmuir
One person and a dog were found dead following a Monday morning fire that burned a Dunsmuir home, according to fire officials.
The fire started before 10:18 a.m. in the living room of a home at 6126 Rose Ave., Dunsmuir Fire Chief Dan Padilla said Monday.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, Padilla said, but it appears a wood stove started the blaze. It burned the living room and caused heavy smoke damage throughout the home.
Firefighters finished mopping up the area by 1 p.m., and traffic resumed on Rose Avenue, he said.

The house is in a residential neighborhood in the middle of town. Rose Avenue joins Grover and Branstetter streets, and is less than a quarter mile from where Interstate 5 passes through the city.
The Siskiyou County Coroner's Office had not yet released the name of the victim, although the family has been notified, Padilla said.
No other residents or pets, and no firefighters were injured, Padilla said.
Anyone with information about the fire is asked to call the sheriff's office at 530-842-8300.
Crews from the California Department of Forestry and from fire districts in Dunsmuir, Castella and Mount Shasta fought the fire.
