Cattle sale fraud: Clerk pleads guilty to money mule role, fined 10k
MUAR: A 24-year-old clerk was fined RM10,000 by the Sessions Court here today after she pleaded guilty to allowing her bank account to be used by a scam syndicate linked to a bogus cattle sale.
Siti Noratieka Abdullah admitted to the offence before judge Sayani Mohd Nor after the charge was read out in court.
She was accused of indirectly facilitating the deposit of RM3,500 into her bank account at a premises in Jalan Bukit Pasir, Kampung Temiang, at 11.30am and 5.34pm between Jan 30 and 31.
The case was prosecuted under Section 424C(1) of the Penal Code, which provides for a fine of up to RM150,000 or a jail term of up to 10 years, or both.
Case facts revealed that the scam came to light after a 20-year-old man responded to a Facebook advertisement under the name "Hisham Roslan" on Jan 29 offering cattle for sale.
The victim transferred the payment into the accused's account, unaware it was being used by the syndicate.
Siti Noratieka paid the fine.
