UG admission portal for Bengal colleges to open on June 17

Kolkata: More than a month after the board results were declared, the state education department on Thursday notified that the centralised undergraduate (UG) admission portal will be rolled out from Tuesday (June 17. ) The portal will have 17 universities and 460 colleges, the notice states. This has brought relief to the students. The UG admission in Bengal through a centralised admission portal (CAP) was stalled owing to the OBC-reservation-related dispute. However, the minority and private colleges had started their admission soon after the board results were declared. While the ISC results were declared on April 30, the West Bengal Higher Secondary (WBHS) results were published on May 7, followed by the CBSE class 12 results on May 13. State education minister Bratya Basu had repeatedly hinted last week that the UG admission process would begin earlier than last year after resolution of the OBC issue. He had said the amended rule would be placed before the state assembly soon. Last year, the admission portal was inaugurated on June 19 and turned functional from June 24. CAP was launched last year after the plan was put on hold several times. "The online portal will become accessible on June 17 after 4:00 pm," said a Bikash Bhavan source, adding, that the admission portal was ready to function, and only last-minute fine-tuning was underway. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 오스템 임플란트 받아가세요 임플란터 더 알아보기 Undo Sources said students can choose among 460 colleges and will have 25 options, including subjects and colleges, for applying to UG courses. Students will be informed about the seats they secure and name of the institutes they can get admitted to. They will also be informed about remaining seats and waiting list. This year too, the upgrade option will be available. "There is a plan to introduce a chatbot in the portal to answer applicant's queries on a real-time basis," an official said, Lady Brabourne College principal Siuli Sarkar said she was apprehensive that the quality of students would be compromised due to the delay as many would have shifted to other states or taken admission in minority colleges. Besides, it may impact academic schedule. Surendranath College principal Indranil Kar recalled how such delays had affected admissions last year. Principal of New Alipore College Jaydeep Sarangi feels that the delay will not affect filling up of seats.
