Ramadan Village promotes Omani values amid modern challenges

Nakhal – Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs launched the second edition of Ramadan Village in Nakhal, South Batinah last week under the theme 'Your Values are a Trust'. Running throughout the holy month, the event is designed to instil and preserve traditional Omani values, while raising awareness of their relevance in the face of modern-day challenges. The Ramadan Village features a wide range of activities aimed at engaging and educating visitors. These include religious guidance programmes, heritage exhibitions and interactive community workshops. Its goal is to foster a deeper understanding of Omani culture and promote social harmony. Dr Abdulrahman bin Mohammed al Siyabi, Director of Department of Endowments and Religious Affairs in South Batinah, highlighted the success of the first edition and emphasised that the second is built on that success to strengthen the role of Omani values in society. 'This initiative is not just about preserving traditions but reinforcing the moral framework that sustains our society. Through community engagement and educational programmes, we aim to nurture a pure and resilient value system,' Siyabi said. A key feature of the opening ceremony was a thought-provoking dialogue session addressing the challenges of preserving cultural heritage in the face of globalisation. The discussion also underscored the important role of the Omani school curriculum in fostering national values, encouraging a sense of identity and active citizenship from an early age. Additionally, Nakhal Zakat and Charity Committee launched a new endowment investment initiative aimed at supporting charitable work within the community. This initiative is expected to improve sustainability of endowment projects and provide enhanced support for social welfare programmes.

Creative development competition for Omani youth launched

Muscat – Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth (MCSY) has announced the tenth season of the Clubs Competition for Cultural Creativity, a key programme aimed at fostering the intellectual and creative development of Omani youth. Hilal bin Saif al Siyabi, Director of the competition and Director General of Youth Affairs, highlighted the significance of the programme, which focuses on nurturing cognitive and intellectual growth among young people. He stated that the competition has long served as a platform for discovering and refining young talents, contributing to their personal development and the broader progress of society. 'The goal is to encourage youth participation in a wide range of cultural, artistic and technical activities, thereby promoting community development,' Siyabi said. It targets Omani youth aged ten to 29, divided into two categories: 10–16 years and 17–29 years. It covers various creative fields, including literature, with focus on classical and popular poetry; culture, with emphasis on debates; and visual arts, featuring fine arts and photography. In the performing arts category, participants will compete in music and singing, while the technology and innovation segment includes fields such as entrepreneurship, innovation and electronic games. The sports category will feature a sports commentary contest. The competition has several prestigious awards, including Best Youth Committee Award, which recognises contributions of youth committees within clubs and encourages greater community participation. The competition awards aim to boost youth involvement, spotlight creative talents and underscore the importance of local youth committees in nurturing young, talented Omanis. A Media Competition has also been introduced this season, targeting volunteer media teams from across Oman, to further promote collaboration and creativity in the media sector.
