Coroner: Man killed in Summerhill Township snowmobile accident
JOHNSTOWN, Pa. – A man died in a snowmobile accident in Summerhill Township over the weekend.
Vernon E. Walker, 64, was operating a 2004 Ski-Doo MXZ 600 snowmobile Saturday when it went airborne and crashed into a tree upon landing, Cambria County Coroner Jeff Lees said.
The Cambria County Coroner's Office was called to the 1400 block of Washington Avenue in Summerhill Township at 12:30 a.m. Saturday, along with Beaverdale and Portage fire departments and EMS agencies from Forest Hills, East Hills and Ebensburg.
Lees said the accident happened in a wooded area about 200 yards off Washington Avenue in the Beaverdale section of Summerhill Township.
Walker was wearing a helmet, but was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.
Lees has ruled the cause of death multiple blunt-force impact injuries. Speed appears to have been a factor, he said.
