Escambia County World War II veteran celebrates 108th birthday
CANTONMENT, Fla. (WKRG) — A local veteran is celebrating his 108th birthday today!
A birthday celebration was held for Duane Brewton Jr. Wednesday at the Sodalis Senior Living facility.
New Silverhill Elementary School opens, old school to be transformed
Family, staff members and other residents celebrated the milestone by singing to Brewton, sharing kind words about him and enjoying cake.
Brewton is a World War II veteran and Purple Heart recipient.
His family described him as a wonderful father, grandfather and husband.
The staff at Sodalis Senior Living said they're thrilled to be part of Brewton's special day.
Escambia County Sheriff's Office warns residents about scam
'It's been an honor and a privilege to work with him, to be able to care for him,' Jennifer Torres-Carter, a nurse at Sodalis Senior Living, said. 'Here at Sodalis, our team [is] blessed to be able to be in his presence.'
Brewton is also the oldest living founder of the Brownsville Assembly of God Church.
His family believes his faith in the Lord may just be his secret to living a long life.
