Global Foundries to set up design & testing centre in Kolkata, eyes future fab expansion
Global Foundries will establish a design and testing center in Kolkata. The West Bengal government will provide space for the project. There is a possibility of future expansion into fabrication. Santech Global Inc. has also expressed interest in setting up a semiconductor project in Kolkata. The government aims to create a robust semiconductor ecosystem.

Kolkata: Global Foundries , a major semiconductor manufacturing company, which will set up a fab-less centre for design and testing in Kolkata Power Centre, is also likely to expand to fabrication later, people in the know said. Following a closed-door meeting with US Consul General, West Bengal government has announced that it will hand over around 19,000 square feet to the company at Software Technology Park of India (STPI) IT park to the company in the eastern fringes of Kolkata's Salt semiconductor investment by Global Semiconductor company in Kolkata was announced following Prime Minister Narendra Modi's meeting with the US. We will contribute to a robust semiconductor ecosystem in West Bengal and a shared vision for technological advancement and open up many more economic opportunities for our state, particularly in terms of creating meaningful employment for the youth of West Bengal,' Nabanna sources stated.'We have already provided them space…We are also interested in building up a power electronics ecosystem and for this we are working with Global Foundries, Startup, Academia and industry,' state government sources said.'We working with the Global Foundries and Universities for a joint internship program, where students from Bengal will be benefitted,' state government sources said. The Global Capability Centre Policy (GCC policy) for the state of West Bengal is being formulated and the consultation process is is a major semiconductor manufacturing company that produces microchips used in electronic devices like smartphones, computers, and cars, helping to power modern technology around the world.
