Bahrain managed to post a challenging total of 126/9 in their 20 overs on a pitch that proved difficult for batting. Malaysia's chase faltered from the outset, losing wickets at regular intervals. Despite a brief resistance from Vijay Unni Suresh, who scored 28 runs, the Malaysian batting lineup crumbled under pressure. Bahrain Bounce Back with Convincing Win Over Tanzania in ICC CWC Challenge League B
Tin Kwong Road Recreation Ground, Hong Kong – Bahrain secured a commanding 6-wicket victory over Tanzania in Match 21 of the ICC CWC Challenge League B on Monday, 10th February. After electing to field first, Bahrain's bowlers, led by a stellar performance from Imran Anwar, dismantled Tanzania's batting lineup, restricting them to a modest total of 139. Bahrain chased down the target with ease, thanks to a composed innings from Sohail Ahmed and Muhammad Basil. Tanzania's innings got off to a disastrous start as they lost wickets in quick succession. Imran Anwar was the chief destroyer, finishing with figures of 4/22 in 8 overs. He removed key batsmen early, including Ivan Selemani (13) and captain Kassim Nassoro (2), leaving Tanzania reeling at 26/5. Rizwan Butt (3/44) and Abdul Majid (2/24) also contributed with crucial breakthroughs. Akhil Anil provided some resistance with a gritty 57 off 97 balls, including 4 fours and 2 sixes, but lacked support from the other end. Sivaraj Selvaraj (27) and Ally Kimote (18) tried to stabilize the innings, but Tanzania were eventually bowled out for 139 in 41.2 overs. In reply, Bahrain's chase began shakily as they lost Rishabh Ramesh (4) and Junaid Aziz (0) early, both falling to Khalidy Juma. However, Shahbaz Badar (23 off 26) and Sohail Ahmed steadied the ship with a partnership that took Bahrain to 41/3. Sohail Ahmed anchored the innings with an unbeaten 57 off 87 balls, showcasing patience and precision. He was well-supported by Muhammad Basil, who remained not out on 33 off 56 balls, as the duo guided Bahrain to victory in 34.1 overs. Tanzania's bowlers, particularly Khalidy Juma (3/52), tried to make inroads, but the target proved too small to defend. Kassim Nassoro (1/15) was the only other bowler to pick up a wicket. Imran Anwar (Bahrain): 4/22 (8 overs) – Player of the Match Akhil Anil (Tanzania): 57 (97) Sohail Ahmed (Bahrain): 57* (87) Rizwan Butt (Bahrain): 3/44 (10 overs) Khalidy Juma (Tanzania): 3/52 (8.1 overs) Bahrain's comprehensive victory was built on a disciplined bowling performance and a composed chase. Imran Anwar's four-wicket haul set the tone, while Sohail Ahmed's unbeaten half-century ensured a smooth finish. The win keeps Bahrain in contention in the ICC CWC Challenge League B, as they look to build momentum in the tournament. Tanzania, on the other hand, will need to regroup and address their batting frailties ahead of their next match. The Tin Kwong Road Recreation Ground witnessed another exciting contest, with Bahrain emerging as the dominant side on the day.

Coetzee roars back into form as Hong Kong blitz Bahrain in Challenge League B
Martin Coetzee scorched back into form with an unbeaten century, and prolific opening partner Anshuman Rath scored 79, as Hong Kong comfortably chased down 183 for a nine-wicket Cricket World Cup Challenge League B victory over Bahrain on Sunday. Hong Kong suffocated the visitors in the first half of their innings, and when Aizaz Khan gleefully claimed the prized wicket of Asif Ali, caught behind for 40, Bahrain were in no man's land on 89 for four from 32.3 overs. Sohail Ahmed bashed six maximums in an undefeated 70 to lift his team to the respectability of 182 all out from 49.4 overs. The tiny Kowloon Cricket Club boundaries weigh conditions in the batsmen's favour, but off-spinner Ehsan Khan bowled with control and guile to claim three for 17 from 10 overs. Nasrulla Rana bagged three wickets, while Aizaz Khan, who ended a last-wicket stand of 31 when he trapped No 11 Imran Khan in front, finished with two. Simon Willis, the Hong Kong head coach, said: 'We are going in the right direction. We probably dropped more catches than for a long time, but our bowling in the opening 30 overs was outstanding. We hit our lengths, kept it simple and set the tone for the day. 'Wickets came because Bahrain had to play shots. Apart from a few overs at the end, it was an excellent bowling performance.' Hong Kong wicket keeper Zeeshan Ali (left) looks on as Bahrain's unbeaten Sohail Ahmed bats. Government plans renovation of iconic Akbari Mandi
LAHORE: The Punjab government has announced a plan to restore and renovate the historic Akbari Mandi, the largest spice and dried fruit market in Asia. Established during the Mughal era, the 500-year-old market is a significant commercial and cultural hub, drawing traders from across the province. The restoration project will be carried out in partnership with the Walled City of Lahore Authority (WCLA) and Aga Khan Cultural Service-Pakistan (AKCSP). Akbari Mandi, named after Mughal Emperor Akbar, was established near Delhi Gate during the 16th century to facilitate trade while maintaining separation from the main city. Akbari Mandi is renowned for its wholesale and retail offerings of rare spices, herbs, and dried fruits, many of which are unavailable in other major cities. Its historic buildings, a blend of Mughal and colonial architecture, feature arched fronts, intricately carved wooden jharokas (balconies) and narrow alleys that reflect the traditional urban planning of Lahore's walled city. "This market has not only been a centre of commerce but also a witness to history. Restoring it to its original form will benefit shopkeepers, traders, and local residents alike," said Sohail Ahmed, a trader at Akbari Mandi. He added that the project would address longstanding issues such as encroachments, poor sanitation and an out-dated drainage system that pollutes the environment. The Punjab government has allocated funds for restoring 273 shops and 115 houses in the market. The project includes improving infrastructure, redesigning roads and sub-streets, and upgrading the sewage and drainage systems. Parking facilities will also be expanded, ensuring greater accessibility for visitors and traders. WCLA Director General Kamran Lashari emphasised that the restoration will preserve the market's architectural heritage while making it more functional and visually appealing. "Our focus is to restore the shop fronts and historic buildings, reorganize roads, and enhance the overall aesthetic of the market," Lashari stated. Aga Khan Cultural Service-Pakistan CEO Tauseef Ahmed expressed optimism about the project. "We aim to restore this market to its former glory, ensuring convenience for tourists, traders, and residents. The restored Akbari Mandi will allow people to experience this historic site in all its splendour," he said. The project will not only revive the market's historical character but also bolster its role as a thriving commercial hub. With upgraded infrastructure and facilities, Akbari Mandi is poised to regain its status as a jewel of Lahore's walled city. The restoration, once completed, is expected to attract more tourists, boost local businesses, and serve as a model for preserving heritage sites across the region.
