Fake currency with face value of 7.7L seized in Lakhimpur

Dibrugarh: In a crackdown on counterfeit currency operations, Laluk police on Friday seized Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN) with a face value of Rs 7.7 lakh from a vehicle in Lakhimpur district.
The accused, identified as Sohidul Islam (37), a resident of No 1 Ahmedpur village in Bangalmora, was arrested after a 5km-long chase near the Tinthengia area.
Acting on a tip-off, a police team from Laluk Police Station intercepted the vehicle suspected of carrying fake notes. When the driver refused to stop, a high-speed chase ensued, culminating in the arrest of Islam. Upon searching the vehicle, police recovered 1,540 counterfeit notes of Rs 500 denomination, totaling Rs 7.7 lakh.
Two mobile phones were also seized from the accused.
"The accused was transporting the fake currency from an undisclosed location when we intercepted him. He revealed during interrogation that the notes were supplied by one Ikram, whose whereabouts are currently being traced," said a senior police officer from Laluk Police Station.
