STF nabs wanted accused in grain scam
Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) on Wednesday arrested a wanted accused, Shubham Kumar Chaudhary, who carried a cash reward of Rs 50,000 on his head, near the Charbagh foot overbridge under the Naka police station area.
Shubham was wanted in a case of financial embezzlement related to govt grain procurement and was booked under BNS Sections 409, 120B, 467, 468, and 471 at the Shivnagar-Didai police station in Siddharthnagar district.
A native of Sehuda Khurd in Basti district, Shubham previously worked at Sohrab Rice Mill and was later appointed in-charge of the govt paddy and wheat procurement centre operated by the district cooperative federation (DCF) in Semhrani, Siddharthnagar.
During his tenure, approximately Rs 12 lakh was allegedly misappropriated, leading to the registration of a criminal case against him. Following the case, Shubham absconded and fled to Mumbai to evade arrest.
Acting on intelligence regarding the movement of several absconding and reward-listed criminals across the state, deputy SP Avnishwar Chandra Srivastava formed a dedicated team to apprehend such fugitives.
"During interrogation, Shubham admitted to the financial embezzlement," said Srivastava. The STF has handed him over to Siddharthnagar police, where he will face further legal proceedings.
