Fierce storm wreaks havoc in Kaithal and Jind, over 1,500 electric poles damaged

KAITHAL/JIND: A powerful storm that struck on Wednesday evening caused widespread destruction in the Jind and Kaithal districts. Hundreds of trees were uprooted, and the electricity department suffered major losses.
As per the data procured from officials over 1,500 electric poles were damaged across both districts, with around 800 poles in Kaithal and 724 in Jind reported as damaged.
Additionally, 127 power transformers were damaged, with 70 in Kaithal and 57 in Jind falling to the ground.
The storm was so intense that in the Kaithal district, objects from surrounding areas were blown onto the 400 KV line and got entangled in the wires.
Fortunately, no major accident occurred.
In a separate incident, at the civil hospital in Jind, glass from windows shattered and fell on patients receiving treatment. One patient, Chand Ram from Ghimana village in Jind, was seriously injured. He reported that he was undergoing treatment when the sudden storm made his condition worse. He suffered injuries on his face, hands, and legs due to the glass shards and required stitches.

The Superintending Engineer (SE) Sombir Singh of the electricity department in Kaithal said that the district suffered significant damage due to the storm. While electricity has been restored in almost all villages, work is still ongoing to fully restore the supply in about 20 villages in the Dhand area.
SE ML Sukhija from the electricity department in Jind stated that power supply has been restored to all villages in the district, and a complete assessment of the losses is underway.
