Cobham Sports reach final with 3-0 win over Hamworthy Rec Res
COBHAM Sports reached the final of the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance Senior Trophy with a 3-0 win over Hamworthy Recreation Reserves.
The hosts at Merley Park were made to work hard for their win by a stubborn Rec side, but a first half Josh Toop strike followed by a second half brace from Dan Brown saw Cobham reach the final.
They will meet fellow Dorset Premier League side Blandford United for the trophy.
The opening 20 minutes of the game was uneventful, as both teams sought control over the midfield.
The first effort on goal went Cobham's way after 24 minutes, Josh Buck testing Henry Birtwhistle in the Rec net.
The hosts lost a player to the sin bin and the visitors had a good spell, although Jacob Deakin was untroubled in the Cobham goal.
Back to 11 men after 40 minutes, Cobham opened the scoring, Toop playing the ball to Buck on the left, Toop continuing his run to meet the cross and put the hosts 1-0 up.
Cobham were quick out of the blocks in the second half, but were unable to double their advantage in the opening exchanges of the half.
It was all Cobham as Buck shot wide and Birtwhistle was in action to tip over a Trim effort and save from Toop.
But it was 2-0 in the 75th minute, Buck getting down the left and finding Joe Wood in the six-yard box, who fended off challenges to tee up Brown to score from 16 yards.
Rec sought a way back into the game but Cobham put the semifinal to bed in the 89th minute, Wood's overhead kick finding Brown in the six-yard box and he made no mistake with his head to make it 3-0.
The win saw Cobham extend their unbeaten run to 19 games.
