Sony Xperia 1 VII promo videos show off all the new camera features and more
The Sony Xperia 1 VII builds on the legacy of the 1-series with improvements to the camera hardware and software, a new flagship chipset and a design that doesn't follow fads. First up, this two-and-a-half minute video showcases new features like Position Lock and Auto Framing, which are easier to show than explain. The new 48MP 16mm ultra-wide camera is the center of attention here. Next, this video goes into more details on Position Lock, which uses human pose estimation to automatically keep people in the center, as well as the AI Camerawork feature. The following video focuses on Auto Framing, which does tracking as well and records two videos at once – one showing the whole scene, the other cropping in for a close-up of the subject. These new features on the Xperia 1 VII are powered by AI, which is the focus of this video – AI is tasked with everything from exposure control to Eye autofocus, in addition to the Position Lock and Auto Framing features mentioned above. It's not just the camera, though, AI also upscales audio (DSEE Ultimate) and remasters video for the Bravia display. The design of the Mark 7 seems familiar enough, but there is more than meets the eye. This video is an overview of all the enhancements and changes in this generation. And here is a more artistic promo video that is about the experience rather than the technical details. And if you do want details, this 8-minute video features a discussion by several Sony engineers that were involved in the design of the Xperia 1 VII. Don't miss our Sony Xperia 1 VII review and video review. Sony Xperia 1 VII 5G

Meet Sony Xperia 1 VII, a flagship phone with Alpha camera, Bravia display and Walkman sound
Sony may no longer dominate the smartphone market, but the Japanese tech giant still makes some of the best smartphones, at least on the hardware front. Recently, the company unveiled the Xperia 1 VII, its latest flagship phone that combines tech from its Alpha cameras, Bravia displays and Walkman audio. While Sony has been borrowing expertise from its Alpha camera and Bravia TV teams when it comes to the Xperia lineup, this time, the company seems to be also adding the Walkman department to the mix for a better audio experience. The company has also improved the camera experience by adding an AI-based auto framing mode to the 48MP main sensor that recognises humans and keeps them in the center of the frame. However, one downside is that the video quality is limited to 1080p because of the camera cropping. And while it does have the same 12MP telephoto lens with 3.5x to 7.1 continuous optical zoom like its predecessor, the Xperia 1 VII packs in a much improved 48MP ultrawide shooter. On the audio front, Sony says the Xperia 1 VII now uses high-end components from modern Walkman audio players. As you would expect, the phone also supports AI based DSEE Ultimate upscaling, Hi-Res, LDAC, Dolby Atmos. The company also said that it has improved the stereo speakers by giving them a bass boost. As for the display, the Sony Xperia 1 VII sports a 120Hz 6.5-inch OLED screen that is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2. The phone comes with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage, which can be expanded using a microSD card slot. The phone runs on Android 15 out of the box, with Sony still offering 4 Android updates. All of this is backed by a 5,000mAh battery that supports 30W wired and 15W wireless charging. The Sony Xperia 1 VII is currently available in the United Kingdom and Europe for £1,399 and £1,499 respectively, Rs 1,59,140, approximately.

Sony looks set to take another swipe at the best camera phone title
When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. Sony has revealed that it will announce the Xperia 1 VII on May 13 The company has also teased that it will be "powered by Alpha" This likely means a real focus on camera improvements Sony's Xperia 1 phones are among other things known for quite impressive cameras, but oddly – despite Sony also making a range of popular and capable 'Alpha' cameras – the company hasn't used 'Alpha' branding on its Xperia phone cameras before. But it looks like that's about to change. In a teaser video on YouTube, the company has revealed that the next Sony Xperia 1 – likely to be dubbed the Sony Xperia 1 VII – is landing on May 13. This teaser doesn't give much away, but it does mention that the phone is 'powered by Alpha', and then goes on to show an Alpha camera, followed by images of people taking photos with what's likely the Xperia 1 VII. So, if nothing else this tells us that photography is likely a major focus for the Sony Xperia 1 VII, but what exactly it being 'powered by Alpha' means is less clear, with that potentially referring to software, hardware, or both. Still, based on our Sony Xperia 1 VI review we can say that we hope night image quality and dynamic range optimization are improved, as they were weak links in that phone's photography performance. Assuming the phone pictured in the video is the Sony Xperia 1 VII it has a similar design to the Xperia 1 VI, complete with a flat back and three rear lenses. We have some idea of what those lenses might be too, with leaks pointing to a 48MP main sensor (with optical image stabilization), a 12MP ultra-wide camera, and a 12MP telephoto, with a focal length that can range from 70-200mm. That's broadly similar to what you'll find on the Sony Xperia 1 VI, except the telephoto camera there is limited to 85-170mm. Still, even if these leaks are correct, it's possible we'll see other changes to justify the 'Alpha' branding, such as larger sensors, better lenses, or software improvements. Away from the cameras, it has also been reported that the Sony Xperia 1 VII will have a 4K, 120Hz screen, a Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, up to 16GB of RAM, up to 512GB of storage, and a battery of at least 5,000mAh. So, this could be a highly capable handset, but with the current model costing £1,299 / AU$1,899 (with no US availability) it's also likely to be extremely expensive. We should find out for sure very soon. Sony's Xperia 1 VII is coming, but its global release could face delays
Sony Xperia 1 VII is right around the corner — but only for certain markets. A new leak tells us that enthusiasts of Sony's best smartphones may be forced to wait longer than expected. While the phone will launch in Japan shortly, the global market has a pretty long wait ahead, and the fate of the phone in the U.S. still remains uncertain. Notebookcheck cites Sumaho Digest as it claims that the Sony Xperia 1 VII will launch in Japan next week, with a release date on May 15. However, other markets will have to wait until the third quarter of 2025, with a tentative release date in July. The publication expects wide availability across Europe — but what about the U.S. market? Recommended Videos Well, things aren't quite as hopeful where that's concerned. It's uncertain whether the Xperia 1 VII will hit the U.S. market at all, but there are signs pointing to it being possible. The Sony flagship was spotted on the FCC's website a few weeks ago, indicating that at least one of the upcoming Xperia phones could be coming to the United States. The Xperia 1 VII is said to be similar to the VI in terms of design and dimensions. However, it's supposed to offer 4K resolution with a 120Hz refresh rate and the latest Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, providing performance upgrades. The camera is also said to be getting a boost, now offering a telephoto camera with 70-200mm focal length, says Phone Arena. The previous flagship, the Sony Xperia 1 VI, was never launched in the U.S., much to the dismay of many fans. Sony made its decision official, telling The Verge that the phone would be available across Europe and in the UK, but that would be it. Would Sony make a comeback to the U.S. now? Despite the FCC filing, it's definitely not a sure thing. We'll have to wait and see how it pans out. Please enable Javascript to view this content
