Construction in full swing on new Elmwood Clubhouse
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — Progress is finally visible on a new clubhouse project at Elmwood Golf Course in Sioux Falls. After a holdup last summer due to money allocation questions, construction is in full swing this summer.
There may be a little extra noise for golfers to swing through this Spring and Summer out at Elmwood Golf Course, but it's all in preparation for new things next year.
'During my back swing? No problem. No, I mean, I hardly notice it. The parking was tough today but I think it's just because it's super nice out,' golfer Jeff Scoular said. 'But it'll all be worth it in the end, I'm sure.'

The end, of course, being the completion of a new clubhouse that will help make Elmwood Golf Course a bit more of a destination for golfers.
'So the old clubhouse, we didn't have any banquet space or anything like that, we had a very limited kitchen,' Tory Miedema, Sioux Falls Park Development Specialist, said. 'So, not much to offer golfers after their rounds or bigger events like birthdays, anniversaries, weddings, things like that. This clubhouse has a banquet area plus a lounge area that seats upwards of about 220 people and we're looking at bringing it year-round.'
The other part of the construction out here is a new golf cart storage facility and offices for the First Tee program.
'First Tee is a kids' program. It basically is a teaching program that brings kids up through the school — teaches them golf and life lessons along the way,' Miedema said.
As for the *old clubhouse, Miedema says once construction is done the old building will be torn down and replaced with a putting green.
'When people are out here, they're getting really excited to see the new clubhouse, just think about all the things they can do in there,' Miedema said. 'We've never been really a place to stay after the rounds, so the daily golfer is going to see a huge benefit.'
'By the looks of it, it's going to be gorgeous, should be really fun for the golfers. I know a rehab was needed out here,' Scoular said.
The South Dakota Golf Hall of Fame will also move into the new clubhouse.
Miedema says the goal is to have construction finished in October with everything moved into the new clubhouse for next year's golf season.
