Speed checks carried out outside Nevill Hall Hospital
County councillor Laura Wright, representing Grofield ward in Abergavenny, joined Gwent Police officers in monitoring traffic outside Nevill Hall Hospital.
The checks revealed a significant number of drivers exceeding the 20mph limit near the hospital.
One driver was reportedly stopped for travelling 15mph over the permitted speed.
Ms Wright expressed her surprise and frustration at the number of speeding motorists in the area.
She said: "Although we knew speeding is a problem there, it was shocking and very annoying to see just how many people are not sticking to 20mph right outside a hospital."
The councillor plans to contact the South Wales Trunk Road Agency to discuss further action, as the A40 is not managed by the council.
In the meantime, local police officers have been made aware of the situation and will continue to monitor the area.
Motorists are being urged to adhere strictly to the speed limit.
Members of the public can report speeding by calling 101 or through the Go Safe website.
Ms Wright's efforts are part of a broader initiative to improve safety around the hospital, particularly in light of recent concerns about road safety.
