Savannah State wins 5 straight heading into round 2 of SIAC tournament
SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) — The Savannah State men's basketball team has won five games in a row heading into the second round of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament (SIAC).
Their latest victory came on Saturday in round one of the SIAC tournament. The Tigers defeated Spring Hill College 79-74 to advance to the next round in Atlanta.
Savannah State fought through major adversity when it came to leadership changes after former head coach Horace Broadnax retired in the middle of the season.
Since then, interim head coach Clevan Thompson has led the Tigers to a 10-5 record.
'It's been great to watch them surrender themselves to what we're trying to do and the culture we're trying to build,' said Thompson. 'They're seeing in front of their eyes what sacrifice and surrender can do for them.'
For round two of the SIAC tournament, the Tigers will travel to Atlanta to take on Miles College Wed. March 5 at 5 p.m.
