Baghdad-INA
Deputy Prime Minister for Energy Affairs and Minister of Oil, Engineer Hayan Abdul-Ghani Al-Sawad, confirmed on Thursday that clean energy projects in Iraq aim to produce 12,000 megawatts.
A statement from the ministry, received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), stated that "Deputy Prime Minister for Energy Affairs and Minister of Oil Hayan Abdul-Ghani Al-Sawad, during his speech at the panel discussion at the Future of Energy Security and the Transition to Sustainable Resources Summit held in London, stressed that fossil fuels will remain an important source of energy and industry in the coming years."
The minister pointed to "the Iraqi government's efforts and plans to expand the use of renewable energy, particularly in solar power generation projects, which aim to produce 12,000 megawatts. This is in addition to the significant investment in associated gas from several projects and its beneficial uses, including the Southern Iraq Integrated Project in cooperation with Total.
The project also includes, for the first time, the use of seawater for injection into oil fields." The ministry's statement added that "the Future Energy Security Summit is being held with the participation of energy ministers and senior officials from more than 60 countries, in addition to major international energy companies, in cooperation between the British government and the International Energy Agency."
