STAP's Women's Health Fair in Binghamton
BINGHAMTON, NY (WIVT/WBGH) – Dozens of women came together at the Broome County Library recently to promote the importance of women's health, and getting tested.
The group Communities of Color hosted the Women's Health Fair to connect women with local health resources.
16 local organizations were scheduled to participate, facilitating discussions about health disparities, self-care and personal empowerment.
The Testing and Prevention Navigator at the Southern Tier Aids Program, Luisa Sanchez says, being busy with work or raising a family can make it easy to forget about caring for your own body.
'So, we try to grasp a wide range of ways that women's health can be impacted. And it doesn't necessarily have to be health related. But, you know, stress is a big factor of women's health that sometimes we don't talk about enough. So, we try to find a range of agencies that can help with women's stress as well. To kind of navigate those health outcomes,' says Sanchez.
The event featured free STI testing, and Sanchez says STAP offers free HIV testing all year round.
She hopes to make the health fair an annual event and is looking to host the next one sometime in the Fall.
