I-86 bridge work to cause lane reductions in City of Corning
CORNING, N.Y. (WETM) — Starting Monday, May 12, drivers in Corning should expect some travel delays on Interstate 86.
According to the New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT), there will be off-and-on lane reductions on the bridge that carries I-86 over the Norfolk Southern Railway's Southern Tier Line in the City of Corning.

NYSDOT announced in a release that the impacted area is just west of Exit 48 (State Route 352). The release explained that people also may know it as the 'Icicle Bridge.' NYSDOT said both eastbound and westbound passing lanes will be affected while crews work along the shoulders and median. This project work should wrap up by the end of June, the release stated.
The release further explained that nighttime repair work is also scheduled over four weekends in July and August, and NYSDOT plans to keep the public updated as that work gets closer.

In the meantime, NYSDOT said to expect possible travel delays and consider alternate routes if you're passing through the area. As always, weather can shift the schedule, the release stated that things may change depending on conditions.
NYSDOT is reminding drivers to slow down and stay alert in work zones. Speeding fines are doubled in these areas, according to NYSDOT, and getting two or more speeding violations in a work zone could lead to a license suspension.
