Summer hail in Spanish Fort caught on camera
SPANISH FORT, Ala. (WKRG) — A hailstorm was caught on camera Monday in the Spanish Fort area.

Pea-sized hail could be seen hitting the ground, and the wooden porch railing in this video sent to us by Sarah Kettinger.
According to , seeing hail this time of year is a normal occurrence.
'Most of our hailstones in the summer months range from the size of peas to the size of half dollars,' said Bloodsworth.
He also explained how exactly hail happens.
'With such high humidity and warmer temperatures, thunderstorm updrafts tend to be faster, leading to taller storms,' he said. 'The strong updrafts inside the storms send rain droplets to higher elevations, allowing them to freeze.

'When these frozen ice pellets within the storms become large and heavy enough, they fall as hail.'
