CNN host warns Dems must actually 'get rid of some sacred cows' of far-left ideology, not just talk about it
CNN host Abby Phillip warned that if Democrats want to win back voters, they will need to risk offending their consultant class base with concrete policy changes. Since their historic defeat in November, the Democratic Party remains divided about how to move forward. While some Democrats are doubling down on the far-left politics many argue alienated voters, others are calling to abandon so-called "woke" politics. But as the party remains in flux, a rising tide of commentators are challenging such Democrats to actually articulate which far-left policies they will kick to the curb in order to regain the working-class voters they lost. On Tuesday evening, a panel on CNN discussed The New York Times' report claiming that Democrats are spending $20 million on a study called "Speaking with American Men: A Strategic Plan." The study is purportedly a project to "study the syntax, language and content that gains attention and virality in these spaces" of male voters. The panel spoke about how Democrats lack their own equivalent of podcaster Joe Rogan, and how he gradually went from a nonpolitical figure to becoming prominent in the "MAGA universe." CNN media correspondent Hadas Gold said one idea she has seen pitched is a "sleeper" podcast, "where they just they help fund the podcasters, let them do whatever they want, really build up that base, it has nothing to do with politics, and then in a few years, sort of seep into politics," she said, "just like Joe Rogan." Democratic Party Scrambles To Fix Image As Members Acknowledge Party 'Lost Credibility' However, she argued, such an idea probably wouldn't work. Read On The Fox News App "The only way that that works is through authenticity, and you're not going to make it work by building up these funds and, in any way, being connected to a political party, because the political parties, especially Democrats right now, don't exactly have a good brand people want to be attached to," she said. When Gold praised Arizona Democratic Sen. Ruben Gallego for appealing to authenticity in his rhetorical style, Phillip responded that Democrats need actual substance to their reform. "Okay, but here's the thing. They're going to have to — you alluded to this," Phillip said as she pointed to former Biden White House official Dan Koh, who called to take positions that may offend parts of the party. "They're going to have to get rid of some sacred cows. This is going to be the hard part. Everybody talks about authenticity until the rubber meets the road, and they have to actually take positions that the activist, you know, consultant class base does not want them to take." Click Here For More Coverage Of Media And Culture "I don't think they will," CNN commentator Shermichael Singleton said. "I mean, for Democrats to effectively target men of every color, they are going to have to drastically change some of their positions, especially some of the cultural stuff. I don't think that's going to happen, Dan. I think you guys have moved so far to the left, many — I know you're from the South, Dan, you seem to be more reasonable than most, but for the most part, a lot of you guys don't make room for guys to express their views in an open way about a lot of issues." When Koh was asked what he would do to change the party, he proposed doing a better job of enforcing the border and supporting upward mobility, saying, "These positions aren't popular with a lot of the party, but it's what people are — to the point of putting people where they are, it's where people are, and it's where we need to be as well."Original article source: CNN host warns Dems must actually 'get rid of some sacred cows' of far-left ideology, not just talk about it

Democrats don't need to spend $20 million to study why men abandoned the party — just stop trashing them
Democrats can't figure out why they're hemorrhaging young male voters — and party leaders are so baffled that they've thrown $20 million toward studying their predicament. I'll give them the punchline for free: It's all the man-bashing. Progressives waged war on toxic masculinity, insisting that we should 'believe all women' and claiming that red meat is a right-wing thing. Is it any wonder men have said 'no thanks'? Advertisement Despite the obvious, the Democratic Party has reportedly poured eight figures into an effort dubbed SAM, short for 'Speaking with American Men: A Strategic Plan' — probing men as though they are some alien species. 6 California Gavin Newsom reportedly attended a PAC conference where Democratic leaders are said to have discussed a plan to commission a $20 million report that would 'study the syntax, language and content that gains attention and virality in [young male] spaces.' AP The report, according to the New York Times, promises to 'study the syntax, language and content that gains attention and virality in [young male] spaces.' Sounds like a lot of gobbledygook. Dems like California Governor Gavin Newsom and Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear reportedly discussed how to reach the average American man at the Future Forward PAC conference held at… the Ritz-Carlton in Half Moon Bay, California. Advertisement What they could have done instead is listen to other people in their own party. 6 David Hogg, 25, encouraged Democrats to reach out to young men on 'Real Time with Bill Maher' — but he's been sidelined by other party officials. Real Time with Bill Maher/HBO When DNC vice chair David Hogg had the gall to say the Democrats should pay more attention to young men — good advice from a real-life 25-year-old male — party leaders reacted by calling for an election to void his position, allegedly in political retribution. Appearing on 'Real Time with Bill Maher' on May 9, Hogg lamented that his party was leaving young men behind. Advertisement 'What I think happened last election is younger men — they would rather vote for somebody who they don't completely agree with [but] who they don't feel judged by, than somebody who they do agree with [but] that they feel like they have to walk on eggshells around constantly because they're going to be judged or ostracized or excommunicated,' he said. Bingo. 6 Kamala Harris turned down an interview with bro-whisperer and onetime Bernie Sanders supporter Joe Rogan. YouTube / PowerfulJRE 6 'One of the markers of being on the right now is to actually just be unapologetic about being a guy and being masculine,' author Richard Reeves told The Post. Advertisement When former Bernie Sanders supporter and ultimate bro whisperer Joe Rogan invited Kamala Harris onto his podcast during the last election cycle — even entering into negotiations about discussion topics — the candidate turned him down, leaving Trump with a slam dunk. Harris' clear message? Screw you men, we don't really care. The result: Trump won voters under 26, white men, black men and 18-year-old non-white men, while his support among men overall swelled from 49% in 2020 to 55% in 2024. Sure, the Dem's SAM report isn't wrong. It suggested advertising more in video games and shifting language away from a 'moralizing tone' towards men. This is all true — but it's also too little, too late. 6 The Harris campaign lost significant ground with young men in the 2024 election. AFP via Getty Images This is, after all, the party that insisted Doug Emhoff had 'reshaped the perception of masculinity' on the campaign trail. Meanwhile, progressive ideology pushed by the Dems has told young men they are intrinsically toxic and their concerns aren't a priority. And, as one X user aptly pointed out, mainstream media headlines have even gone as far as to malign workouts, red meat and hot girls as 'right wing.' You don't necessarily have to go as far as Hulk Hogan ripping apart his own T-shirt to reveal a 'Trump Vance 2024' tank top underneath, as happened at the Republican National Convention. But that sent a message that masculinity isn't shamed around here. Advertisement 6 Hulk Hogan ripping apart his own T-shirt to reveal a 'Trump Vance 2024' tank top underneath at the Republican National Convention may have been cartoonish, but it sent a message that masculinity isn't shamed by the right. Getty Images 'The progressive left sometimes thinks or talks about masculinity in this kind of toxic way, which I think creates an opportunity for the right to actually say, no, masculinity is a good thing,' Richard Reeves, president of The American Institute for Boys and Men, told The Post. 'One of the markers of being on the right now is to actually just be unapologetic about being a guy and being masculine and not having to apologize for mansplaining and 'toxic masculinity' and manspreading and all of that.' Seems like a pretty obvious message, and one that doesn't cost $20 million.

Analysis: The party of cringe
The so-called liberal media isn't doing Democrats a lot of favors these days. Six months after losing to Donald Trump for the second time, the Democratic Party's shortcomings remain the biggest story in Washington. Revelations from the new Biden book by Jake Tapper and Alex Thompson have prompted weeks of relitigation of the 2024 race. The duo have been on a book tour in which Tapper has gone beyond his reporting to act as a media critic himself, suggesting at one point that the kind of criticism he has received from the party is an indication of why it lost. This week, The New York Times, too, said it would begin publishing a series of deep examinations on the Democratic Party's defeat, beginning by revealing a $20 million dollar effort with the cringey codename SAM — 'Speaking with American Men: A Strategic Plan.' Meanwhile, Biden allies' attempts to counter have only juiced news articles and interest in the book, which is on its way to being one of the best-selling political nonfiction books in years. And even in lefty online spaces, it's grim for Democrats: In Washington this week, I spoke with a few congressional staffers who said that they had tried using Bluesky as an alternative to Twitter after Twitter was purchased by Elon Musk, but they gave up after their bosses kept getting yelled at by Democratic users angry at their impotence. For the moment, Democrats and the media outlets they pay attention to seem most intent on making the party relive its most painful mistakes.

Democrats spending millions to learn how to speak to ‘American Men' and win back the working class
Democrats have blown millions of dollars on efforts to appeal to 'American Men,' who turned to President Donald Trump in droves on election day, in the hopes of winning back the working class, according to a report. Democrats have spent $20 million on their efforts, with donors and strategists holing up in luxury hotel rooms brainstorming how to convince working-class men to return to the party, according to a New York Times report. The plan, code-named SAM, or 'Speaking with American Men: A Strategic Plan,' promises to use the funds to 'study the syntax, language and content that gains attention and virality in these spaces,' according to the report. As the Times described it, the reports 'can read like anthropological studies of people from faraway places.' The effort also recommends Democrats buy advertisements in video games, among other things, the Times reported. 'Above all, we must shift from a moralizing tone,' the plan urges. While the Democratic Party has struggled in recent years to maintain voters, the party hopes to be rejuvenated by the fact that Trump's popularity has been on the decline since he was elected last fall. Still, the party has been scrambling to find both messaging and a messenger since losing the White House, and Senate while Republicans held the House of Representatives in the November election. Recent polling from Strength in Numbers/Verasight places Trump underwater with American voters on every single issue, except for border security. According to the poll, 40 percent of people either strongly or somewhat approve of Trump's overall handling of the presidency, while 56 percent disapprove, split by the same modifiers, putting him 16 points underwater. 'Trump's numbers seem to be getting worse and worse, and I'm pretty optimistic Democrats will have some real opportunities in 2026,' Zac McCrary, a Democratic pollster, told the Times. 'The 2022 midterms masked the Biden problem,' he said about former President Joe Biden. 'A good 2026 midterm — we should not let that mask a deeper problem.' Democrats have 'lost credibility by being seen as alien on cultural issues,' McCrary added. Meanwhile, longtime Democratic researcher Anat Shenker-Osorio told the Times, the Democrats must take actionable steps to earn back voters. 'Voters are hungry for people to actually stand up for them — or get caught trying,' she said. 'The party is doing a lot of navel-gazing and not enough full-belly acting.'
