The accused, originally from Shahpur village in UP's Etah district, was working at various hotels in central Delhi's Paharganj area. Police said he had a history of alcohol abuse and domestic disputes, including being divorced twice and currently separated from his third wife. During further interrogation, the accused revealed to the police that he previously lived in the same building as the victim about five years ago. He allegedly developed feelings for her over time. "On the day of the incident, he kidnapped her while she was sleeping on the terrace, taking advantage of her inability to alert her parents who were nearby due to her being deaf and mute," a senior police officer said. Crackdown at the capital's edge: Family of five Bangladeshi nationals caught in Delhi

New Delhi: In a significant breakthrough under its ongoing crackdown on illegal immigration, the East District Police of Delhi have apprehended five Bangladeshi nationals, including three minors, who were residing illegally in the Anand Vihar area. The arrests were made as part of a special drive launched by the district police aimed at identifying and deporting foreign nationals living unlawfully in the city. The operation, which marks a key milestone in the district's intensified immigration enforcement efforts, was conducted based on specific intelligence inputs gathered through a combination of human intelligence (HUMINT) and technical surveillance. A special team from the Special Staff unit was constituted under the leadership of Inspector Jitendra Malik, operating under the direct supervision of Pawan Kumar, ACP/Operations, and overall guidance of Abhishek Dhania, Deputy Commissioner of Police, East District. According to police officials, the accused had entered India illegally through unauthorised riverine routes along the India-Bangladesh border, a method increasingly used by illegal migrants to avoid detection. The individuals had been living discreetly in Anand Vihar, attempting to blend in and avoid the attention of authorities. Following a meticulously planned raid, five individuals were detained. During questioning, none were able to produce any legal documents establishing Indian citizenship. As the police carried out scrutiny of their mobile phones it was revealed that they had photographic evidence of Bangladeshi identity documents. This confirmed their nationality and illegal presence in the country. The individuals apprehended have been identified as Md Shaheen, 30, and his wife Rujeena, 26. Along with the couple, three minors were also detained. All five are residents of village Shimulbari, Post Office Miyapara, Police Station Phulbari, District Kurigram, in the Rangpur division of Bangladesh. Now deportation proceedings have been initiated in coordination with the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO), Delhi. Authorities are adhering strictly to the legal process, ensuring due respect for procedural safeguards while prioritising national security concerns. The presence of three minors among those apprehended has also prompted the police to coordinate with child welfare authorities to ensure that appropriate care and protection protocols are followed during the deportation process. According to East District Police officials, more operations are in the pipeline, and efforts are ongoing to trace other illegal foreign nationals believed to be residing in the district. The police said that the crackdown is not only aimed at upholding immigration laws but also at ensuring internal security, as illegal migration poses complex challenges, including the potential for identity fraud, unlawful employment, and strain on civic resources. Commenting on the operation, DCP Abhishek Dhania, IPS, said: 'This operation reflects the East District Police's continued commitment to identifying and acting against illegal immigration. Our teams remain vigilant and are working systematically to uphold the law while ensuring the safety and security of Delhi's residents.' He reiterated that the drive against illegal immigrants will continue with full intensity and called upon the public to report suspicious foreign nationals to local authorities.

Delhi BSP leader, family murdered in 2017: Killer, who skipped parole last year, lands in police net

All Saheed Khan wanted was everything his business partner owned. Khan had been partners with Chaudhary Munawwar Hassan, a local BSP leader in Burari, for years and knew that Hassan owned properties worth Rs 5-6 crore in the area. Khan coveted those properties but knew that Hassan's muscle and power would never let him come close. In 2017, Khan was presented with an opportunity after Hassan was arrested for a rape case earlier that year and was serving his sentence in Tihar Jail. Khan used the time to win the trust of Hassan's family. When Hassan's wife, Ishrat, told Khan that she urgently needed to visit family in Meerut, Khan decided to act. He hired two contract killers. On April 20, 2017, Ishrat (40) and her two daughters, Arju (19) and Arshi (15), were shot and killed. Their bodies would later be discovered by the police, buried in a field near Meerut by the side of the highway. Two days later, Hassan's sons, Aaqib (20) and Shakib (16), were strangled and their bodies buried in one of Hassan's properties in Burari. Back at the jail, Hassan grew suspicious when his family stopped visiting him. When he asked Khan, he would tell him that his family had not been seen for many days. Worried, Hassan applied for bail to find his family. Khan accompanied Hassan on May 18, 2017, to the Burari police station to help him file a missing persons complaint. Two days later, Hassan was found dead, with a gunshot wound, in the bathroom of his Burari residence. As police began investigating the murder, they arrested Khan, who admitted to orchestrating the killings with the help of contract killers Feroz and Zulfiqar. He was sent to Tihar Jail along with his accomplices. In September last year, Khan, who was still an undertrial prisoner — was granted parole on personal grounds, with a directive to return to custody in October. However, he absconded, prompting the issuance of non-bailable warrants, said police. 'As a team of the Special Staff was earlier involved in uncovering the conspiracy behind the brutal murders committed in 2017, former investigating officers were contacted and relevant details collected. Technical surveillance was also mounted, and the residences of the accused and his associates were identified. Acting upon technical investigation and manual intelligence, it was revealed that Khan would be visiting his residence to collect some money. Subsequently, a trap was laid near his residence, and he was successfully apprehended,' said DCP (North) Raja Banthia. During questioning, police said Khan admitted that he had been hiding in areas around Burari to evade the police. He has now been handed over to the Burari police station, said police. Khan had been booked for two cases from 2017 under IPC sections 302 (murder), 120B (criminal conspiracy), 363 (kidnapping), 365 (abduction) and 34 (common intention) along with sections 25 and 27 of the Arms Act.
