‘Accused murderer' arrested following pursuit, Metro police say

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — An 'accused murderer,' who was free on bond and wearing an ankle monitor but still armed with a rifle, was taken into custody Saturday night as a result of 'precision policing public safety work' by Nashville detectives, according to officials. The Metro Nashville Police Department said the Specialized Investigations Division TITANS detectives saw a black Dodge Challenger commit multiple traffic offenses before pulling into a gas station at 26th Avenue North and Clarksville Pike and sitting for 'an unusually long time' on Saturday, May 24. Authorities said they tried to approach the vehicle, but it sped away on Clarksville Pike toward Buchanan Street. After law enforcement used a spike strip to deflate the tires, the driver — identified as 21-year-old Rico Ransom — reportedly headed to Heiman Street and stopped. Officials said detectives ordered him out of the Challenger, but he took off again and tossed an AR-style pistol through the window. According to police, Ransom kept driving to Britt Place, where he ran into a wood line. However, detectives quickly apprehended him. Authorities said Ransom was charged with two counts of felony evading, felony gun possession, and driving on a revoked license. A judicial commissioner set his bond at $28,000. MAY 2021: Nashville teen charged with criminal homicide for crime he committed at age 15 Law enforcement said Ransom is due in Criminal Court on June 5 on a first-degree murder indictment in connection with the November 2019 shooting of 18-year-old Steven Shelton on 26th Avenue North. Ransom was arrested in May 2021, at the age of 17, for that shooting. In addition, Ransom was reportedly charged with attempted criminal homicide at age 14 after a 17-year-old was shot during a fight outside of Pearl Cohn High School in February 2018. No additional details have been released about Saturday night's arrest. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. MNPD: 5 charged after fleeing from police in stolen vehicle According to authorities, 21-year-old Tongai Davidson—who was reportedly wanted on outstanding domestic violence and vandalism warrants—was found sitting in the front passenger's seat. In addition to the outstanding warrants, records show the 21-year-old was also charged with gun possession during the commission of a felony, unlawful possession of a prohibited weapon, felony drug possession and evading arrest. Foster children were tortured for up to 10 years inside Victorville home, authorities say

Six children were allegedly tortured by their foster parents and another adult at a Victorville home, with some of the abuse going back at least a decade, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department. Authorities arrested Kenneth and Tina Key, both 60 years old, and their daughter Katlynn Key, 23, on Monday in connection to the alleged abuse. The foster children at the home ranged in age from 5 to 16, department officials said in a news release. Investigators with the Sheriff's Department's Crimes Against Children unit launched their investigation on Feb. 13, looking into reports of severe and prolonged abuse at a home in Victorville. The children were taken out of the home shortly after the investigation began, sheriff's spokesperson Gloria Orejel said. All three suspects were arrested on suspicion of torture and are being held in lieu of $1 million bail. They are due to appear in court on Wednesday and have not been formally charged by the San Bernardino County district attorney's office, but authorities expect charges to be filed before the end of the day. There were no additional details about the alleged torture, Orejel said, and there were no reports of abuse prior to the start of the investigation. Some of the alleged abuse may have been going on since the children were first placed into the Keys' home, going back at least 10 years, according to Orejel.
