Spencerport Firemen's Carnival updates security protocols after last year's incidents
ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — The Spencerport Firemen's Carnival is implementing new security measures following last year's fights.
During the 2024 Firemen's Carnival, over 200 people broke out into fights as the carnival was closing. This led to several police agencies responding to the carnival grounds. In an unrelated incident during that year's carnival, a teen was arrested for allegedly trying to get in with a loaded gun.
Due to these incidents, carnival organizers updated the security protocols for this year's event. This includes fencing the perimeter of the grounds, minors must be accompanied by a parent or guardian, pets are not allowed, and weapons are banned.
One of these rules also bans backpacks, duffel bags, and drawstring bags. They are allowing fanny packs or belt bags, clear bags, small purses, diaper bags, and medical bags. This rule was also implemented for the upcoming Rochester Lilac Festival.
The organizers acknowledge that the implementation of these new rules is unfortunate, but they say they are necessary to maintain the safety of all guests.
The Spencerport Fireman's Carnival will be held from June 4 through June 7. More information can be found on the event's Facebook page.
